I've certainly heard about aspiration causing lung problems, but no idea, I'm afraid, about treatment. If it is causing infection and inflammation then anti-biopics and steroids may help.

Longer term stuff....?

I am sure others here will help with more first hand experience.

I had aspiration pneumonia a few years ago which was treated in hospital with antibiotics. I had it as a result of inhaling vomit during an attack of sickness and diarrhoea.

Also, my chest consultant thinks my asthma, COPD and bronchiectasis are exaccerbated by silent reflux caused by my hiatus hernia. I now sleep with a wedge under the matress and also have been prescribed Metochlopromide which I take three times a day. The consultant said that this drug helps the food to pass through the stomach more quickly and blocks the 'sickness' signal from the brain that can cause the reflux. It does seem to have helped me.

Don't know if this information is any use to you, but sometimes it helps to know what has worked for others.

I do hope they are able to help your Mum and get her breathlessness sorted out.

xx Moy

I found your reply really interesting. I have a hiatus hernia and suffer from reflex for which I take Lanzoprozole. The hernia is a new diagnosis whereas I have taken the Lanzoprozole for years. Im wondering if its worth asking my GP about the drug you've been given. My breathing bad at the moment and I have a chest infection so anything that could help Id try. Thanks for the info. Kimmy. x

Black ruby I hope your mum is ok and the procedure goes well. x

Mum goes for Bronchscope tomorrow by consultant says there's a 50/50 mum might not cope with the stress of it. Let's hope they manage to dislodge this food as it is causing addidional fatigue and breathlessness X thank you for your reply. Glad your medication is helping . Take Care
