Hospital day adventures, part 1.

Thats the North Middlesex leg of the day done and dusted. In there for over 3 hours, most of it just waiting around, as you do.

First appointment had to be rescheduled. They couldn't do my lung function tests because of my recent infection, and they wouldn't get a 'true' reading. Whatever that means. Will get another appointment in 7 weeks.

Saw the consultant afterwards, who sent me for a chest X-ray, which came back clear. He said despite my gradual decline in weight (119kg last year, 115kg in March, 114kg today) that all my problems are down to me being overweight.

If I "slim down" then my lungs will work better (despite him saying they're pretty much in top shape overall anyway) and my diabetes will completely disappear.

Now I was told by a specialist diabetic nurse at point of diagnosis that my weight was not the cause or contributing factor of my diabetes, it was in fact a side effect of all the steroids I've taken over the years for the numerous chest infections I've had. But, you know. Lose weight, become a bag of bones, and it will forever go away.

Outcome was that overall my lungs appear to be in fairly good condition, bronchiectasis and COPD both mild (he said, squeezing his fingers tight) and while he "gave in" to my request to get my IgE blood protein levels checked, he wanted me to see a dietician.

Because "I'm a fat bastard" (that's me reading between the lines of what he actually said and what he actually meant btw- especially after he made a point of lightly prodding my stomach) and losing weight will solve all my health problems.

Yeah, ok then. Thanks Doc.

Back to see the consultant in 6 months and ready for round two at UCH later this afternoon.
