Does anybody know of any "air cleaning machines" that would be usefull in a small flat. As winter aproaches and I spend more time indoors, it may be handy to be breathing the "cleanest air possible.

I use a catalytic lamp by Ashleigh & Burwood with the neutral oil on it. Pete can't tolerate the smell of other oils.

I expect there are a few different things available including done house plants but l like the lamp. Xx

My neighbour smokes ... right outside my (open) bedroom window every night. For me, an 'air cleaning machine' could, sometimes, be a shotgun!!

Hi mike, I looked at the Dyson one , I can't work out if you can use it in winter and summer as it is a fan and air purifier . I will try and find out.

I bought a small one from Amazon, I wasn't sure how effective they were so I bought the cheapest, just to try it out. The one that I have was only £12.99 but they have quite a few so it's worth taking a look. I bought mine for the bedroom as I kept waking up with a headache and had read somewhere that it would help - and it has.

I have a dysentery and you can use it in winter just as a prurifier.

Hi nanbn2 , I guess predictive text has got to Dyson! So you can use the Dyson fan air purifier in winter.....do you use it on a lower setting?

I was looking at them but as they were so expensive ...I wanted to know if you could use them all year.

I have a small air filter machine I sometimes use in the bedroom in winter...that was quite cheap though.

I got the Dyson tower air purifier and it does clear the air and keeps it clear. It doesn't blow out cold air unless you turn it right up - the air is room temperature rather than cold so I am expecting to use mine in the winter. It is not noisy either.

The Dyson can be left on auto so it adjusts the airflow according to the air in the room, or you can set it manually from strength 1 to 10. It also has a night setting when it is very low and the light turns off. You can operate it with a smart phone but it also has a small remote control which sits on top of the tower with a magnet. I emailed Dyson customer services several times about it's use and they were very helpful. They will offer you a 2 week free trial if you buy direct from them rather than Currys or Amazon (same price) and if you are not satisfied with it, they will arrange to pick it up. They also offered me a £10 discount if I bought it from them via the telephone. I hope that info is helpful.
