Hi.

My mother was diagnosed with copd in 2013.

She works fine with her day to day chore , but climbing stairs since our house is on second floor , has always been so exhausting for her .(And that was the only reason she insisted on getting her lungs checked.)

Her oxygen was pretty okay till now.but when we visited out doc n cross checked our oxymeter with his.it showed great differenxe.

And now we got this new oxymeter and suddenly it shows pretty low oxygen level. It is 92 while resting and a li'l bit of exertion makes the level drop to 85-88.

She ll be joining cardio pulmonary rehab later this month.

All these online sites says copd is a leading cause of death .She is just 50 years old and the fact that this is a progressive disease and it seems to be deteriorating her health so fast is really making me worry so much.

hi again kritika...I would have got back you sooner only there's 6/7 hour time difference form where I live..Thailand...

it's 4 o'clock Saturday morning now so you could well be asleep by now...

I have asthma and copd..

I don't know what on line sites you have been reading and i dont know what you have learnt from them...meny tell you that you have 4 years to live...and ofcouse that is not ture.

it is a progressive disease/condition. ..but from what I have learnt it's is very slow...and there is a lot you can do to slow it down.

you seem to be doing that already by going on to a rehab course your morther will learn evrything she need to know about her condition and how to help herself. ..maybe you can go with her.

don't be disharten by the lake of response to you post...it does happen from time to time...

sometimes it helps to ask specific questions. ..and you will get answers.

I am a slow writer and it it's taken me half hour to get this far.

wish you and mum all the best...

Hi Kristina

And welcome

Sorry l do not know anything about hypersensitive pneumonitis, but l do have COPD and Asthma.

You have found one of the best forums in the world for help and advice for lung problems, and if you just need to chat about your concerns.

Copd usually is a slow progression if people follow a healthy lifestyle....your Mum will benifit a great deal from pulmonary rehab classes, ...it is important your mum exercises, again she will be show what is suitable for her at PR.

If you have any specific questions you would like answering, just post away.

Look forward to hearing from you again

Good morning Kritika and a warm welcome to HU.

I don't have hypersensitive pneumonitis - but I do have copd and have attended pulmonary rehabilitation classes and loved them. The very knowledgeable people who take the classes don't expect miracles and they do take care that nothing you do is too much for you. Your Mum's oxygen will be checked before the start of each class so tell your Mum not to worry but to tell them that they will need to keep an eye on it.

Do not read all these scaremongering stories online sites you have been checking. You will only frighten yourself. Just have a read on here and learn from all these lovely people who know that with diet and exercise and the correct medication, and maybe a few little changes to lifestyle, you are more likely to die of anything a long way off rather than copd....and at 50 your Mum is very young. Please don't Google - just ask on here about anything that is troubling you. I was diagnosed with moderate copd at 73 and have no intention of leaving this world for hundreds of years yet. Keep your Mum in a positive frame of mind - it all helps

Thanks a lot.

I was pretty positive and happy until recently that her oxygen shows in low 90's or late 80's on exertion.(which recovers to 90's upon resting)

The 6-minute walk test was fine (89 at the end) in February but now it shows drop to 85 in oxygen level.that is why i m worried bout the progressive nature of the disease .
