Morning Dave, Pete has terrible skin because of steroids. He also has lichen simplex eczema because of itch/scratch wrecking his skin.

Wishing you well. Xxx

Dave2436 it's bad enough having copd and other severe illnesses but you have to deal with side affects it goes hahd in hand I'm afraid I myself take krill oil 1000mg a day I swear by it I'm 64 years old and I've no pain in my joints .best wishes x

Hi titchy....about the krill oil, my friend took it and had a bad reaction....best to check .

I've been taking it for 6months and feel a lot better with my joints sorry it didn't work for your friend x

Hi titchy , we are all different and I am so glad it worked for you. My friend is allergic to lots of things, so maybe that's the reason she reacted to it. I think it is marine based....so maybe she was intolerant to shellfish. I felt a bit guilty as she saw it advertised in a magazine which I gave her.

I have tried cod liver oil before as I have arthritis in my fingers.

Best wishes.

Hi titchy not all joint pain is due to side effects of medication. You are lucky to be 64 and have no joint pain. I wish I could say the same I am 58 and have psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. But I do agree that side effects go hand in hand. I have to take medication with really bad side effects. But still in a lot of pain. And taking suplaments don't help.

Hi Dave I would check with your GP befor taking suplaments they could interact with other medication you take.

I only know about the thinning skin I'm afraid.

Two tips.

get some tubigrip (stretchy tubular bandages) for any risky activities. I wear them on my arms playing with dogs, gardening and pruning.

I always carry some Steristrips (that's the brand name for little strips of plaster, like sticky stitches) around with me to stick back the flaps of torn skin on my arms . No other cheaper brand works. They're brilliant and I've had some big rips as I'm fairly active.

I rarely take pred as it makes me feel awful. My thin skin is purely from steroids in inhalers and nasal spray. Maddening, I sympathise with you.

As others say, check with doc but I take glucosumane daily for my joints. I know it helps me because if I run out for a week or two.

I have been on varying doses of Prednisolone for the past 10 years and am very fortunate that I do not suffer any obvious side effects, however to guard against the thinning skin problem I regularly use Nivea skin lotion on all exposed skin. I splosh it on and at 73 don't seem to be doing too badly. I'm a sarcoid and arthritis sufferer.

I too have thinner skin on hands due to steroids the skin peels and i burn my fingers removing toast from the toaster. Taking the tablets to me are a necessary evil .

As a woman of 56 I am a blinking coward, I've had Prednisolone 5mg prescribed to me on Friday, well, it being Sunday I've yet to take 1, not the 8, yes 8 in one go, at first I thought, this Doctors having a laugh, right? Wrong I've to take 8, I'm not the best pill taker at the best of times, but wow, I am really scared, I'll have to just find the courage to take them, I hate all the things that can go wrong. Has Anyone else felt like this?? Please help with some advice, I would be most grateful.

OMG Poppy yes--you are not alone--what I do is try a little first and work up to it--I have to take heart pills now--my biggest fear and nightmare--but I was in hospital very sick and they were giving me IVs with this stuff and it saved my life--Do not read up on side effects--only if you feel you are having one--Now listen--you might do really well and find out some of this stuff works like Im finding out--They give me my pill in 1 24 hr dose so I cant do my little try 1 or 2--You might be less scared if it were 40mgs in one dose?? I can work myself up in a state over pills and procedures--but what are we going to do--? It gets to the point feel like crap or gamble and feel better--The good thing about your pills is they are not long acting so will wear off in 4 hrs--so give it a go--Mine --Im on the ride for 24 hrs--Like I said glad I was in hosp when it was started cause Im like you--Take your first dose--and see--Be brave--I finally told myself good god--Ive had 3 babies and Im letting a dam pill intimidate me--remember they are not long acting--take your first dose and see how it goes--and let me know--I get it--I really do--MmeT if you feel crappy on them call the nurse--it happens and they will find something that will work for you xxxx

Hello Dave 2436😊, unfortunately I know first hand about what you're going through. You don't mention what the joint pain is from, does the prednisolone help? We call it prednisone here in the states, same thing, but they work in different ways. I have arthritis in my neck and I take acetaminophen for pain, but I have also found hot peppers, if you can tolerate them, help with pain. I have terrible bruising on my arms and hands from the prednisone. I, too wear long sleeves and fingerless gloves (I'm female so they're the fashionable ones made of thinner material than the winter ones). To help the bruising try dabbing them with cotton balls soaked in witch hazel twice a day. They'll heal a bit faster, not by much, but it is soothing. For skin tears I keep hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic ointment and bandages of all shapes and sizes on hand. Now, the thin skin: Providing it's ok with your doctor, start eating more protein(lots, not just meat, but other sources), nuts are a good source, you can snack on them or put them in salads, etc. I bought a big can of protein powder (I chose the vegan kind, I'm not vegan, but I wanted the purity of ingredients) get whatever you think you'll like. The powder can be added to anything you want. I don't really like the taste so I add it to fruit juice, smoothies or cereal instead of drinking the shakes. Using lotion everyday helps, and as always, drink plenty of water.

Have a peaceful evening 🌻

You're welcome! I should probably add that exercise helps to bruising to a minimum.
