It has been suggested to me that a high protein high fat diet is recommended for those with COPD.Any comments on this?

Have to fill in claim form for travel disruption due to arrival at destination being delayed for 29 hours! Wish me luck.! Just thought I would throw this in for good measure.

Not heard of that jk and good luck with your form filling. Xxx

Hi...I become totally confused after reading hundreds of articles on what's I should be eating....copd and other things.....

There's had been lots of posts on this subject. .smoothies...beetroot. ...and other things ....

I found that I wasn't to eat anything if I was to go for what was good for me.....just drink WATER....that was the only thing that all the articles I read could agree on.

So now I eat everything. ..that l like...just as i have done all my life and it's bloody lovely😆

Now that's good for me😆

Poor you having such a long delay take them for as much as you can . Are you on 02 and if so how did you cope because the stress of being short of oxygen would help your claim. As far as diet they always say eat healthy but no strict diet.

I was put on a high energy diet in hospital two years ago. High fat and protein. It knocked me into a fat intolerance which is still giving problems so don't make changes too quickly. And good luck with your claim. You must have been bored to tears.

Thanks for the diet tip. Not too bored on trip due to much reading material.

jkboxes, I'm new too. Sorry, I won't be much help with the forms you must fill out, but I am curious as to who it was that made the dietary suggestion to you about the protein and fat. Was it a health pro or something you found on the internet?

It was my daughter's friend who is a dietician. Nothing from internet.

I asked because I'm under weight and my skin is very thin so I am on a high fat/protein diet. The protein is easy for me, it's the fat I have trouble with. Most fat is unhealthy and should be avoided or, if you must, eaten in small quantities. I do use healthy oils like evoo, coconut, etc. Avocados are healthy and high in fat, but I don't like them. If you do pursue this be sure to do it in a healthy way. Plant based proteins are easier to digest, but if you do eat meat, make them lean and don't overdo it because our hearts work harder to digest animal protein. I love beans and they're an excellent source of protein, however, they can cause bloating in people with copd😩

I hope I was able to help, breathe well.

The high fat high protein diet may be used if COPD is making you underweight because of the extra energy needed by the body to breathe. If you have a reasonably normal BMI (around 20-25) and are living with COPD, a healthy eating diet is appropriate. To work out your BMI, square your height in metres and use the result to divide your weight in kilos. Or ask Google for a converter.
