You have to go through this process to know exactly what you have and how to deal with it Im waiting to start pumolary rehab which will help people with lung disease to breathe better and help you understand what to do ,and if you need oxygen the nurses who run these places are experts in lung and cancer diseases they know more than the doctors because they specialise in this area once you've been diagnosed you can ask your doctor for a referral to the PR unit in my are they run for 6weeks twice a week 10am to 12 good luck xxx

in reply to Claire934

You take it as it comes.....there's not much more you can do .

As and when you do all your tests...you will get all the help/advice you need from your doctors and from even more experienced ...this forum.

I know in the U.K. things seem get to done at a slower pace...but you will get there.

Don't worry to much....a little bit will be fine.

You take care now..and wait for some of the more sensible members to wake up....xxx

Good morning Claire and welcome to the site. I have COPD , which includes Bronchitis. Also have a few other chronic illnesses. You do need some tests to confirm your Bronchitis especially if it is chronic. Hope to talk to you again soon. x

Hi Claire, welcome to the forum, I have only been here for a month and already had loads of advice and help. The NHS is a wonderful thing, but its slow when you are waiting for your tests. I had similar problems as yourself and was finally diagnosed with COPD.

The great people on here helped me when I had side effects from the inhaler I was given by my doctor, I am now on a new inhaler and touch wood, I haven't had side effects.

All you can do is wait for your tests and results, I hope everything goes well for you.

The good people on here will help you with any questions you might have now and when you get your results.

I have learned a lot about my disease and how the slow the progression of it from the life savers on here.

The thing that strikes me about this forum is that people will go out of their way to help you, even though they are probably a lot worse than yourself, but take the time to help.

They give you hope.

Steve.

Thanks steve for your reply, I can have the breathing test whenever with doc but cos I been on antibiotics so gotta wait a month but been back doc this am and now on steroids x

welllaners profile image
welllaners in reply to Claire934

Hi Claire, I had to have 3 lots of antibiotics and a course of steroids to shift my last bout of bronchitis. The breathing tests are nothing to worry about.

Do you get short of breath normally or just when you have bronchitis and is this your first bout of bronchitis, I guess not.

I went for the results of my tests today, which turned out better than I could have hoped for. ( BUPA tests through work, a sort of second opinion and more in depth than the NHS tests I have already had)

I hope you are feeling better soon, I know its a worrying time.

The advice I have been given on here is, exercise, no smoking, eat well, get your flu and pneumonia jabs, keep away from ill people and most of all put yourself first!

The people on here are simply the best.

Take care.

Steve

Thanks steve, I go to the gym up to 5 times a week anyway cos my fibromyalgia and I try eat healthy cos the gym, no this been going on for while for years to b honest but the doc finally listened this time babe, I not bothered about the breathing test cos I it before but assumed it all fine cos never heard any more but that was six month later lol x

welllaners in reply to Claire934

Hi Claire, you should have had the results from the previous breathing test even if they were clear.

You sound as if you get enough exercise and eat healthy.

Do you ever suffer from shortness of breath?

I don't know if there is a link between fibromyalgia and your bouts of bronchitis, but getting doctors to really listen is becoming a big problem.

Maybe you could post on here to see if anyone else has had both fibromyalgia and bronchitis.

You don't sound like the sort of person who is gonna get this get them down.

Take care

Steve

Yeah it taken me nearly 6 years to get diagnosed for fibro, the trainers in gym are really good cos I'm always having information off them plus I asked on a fibro site so see if anyone got it as well but the area I live is no good cos I got the steel works here.

Shortness of breath yes I had a few times over the years but been palmed off but this time I'm in better position mentally to fight for this x

Hi Claire, I have COPD. I also have a wife, two children and three grandchildren and can't get rid of anything. Guess I'm stuck with it all but at least with the copd I get inhalers.

Claire934 profile image
Claire934

Sounds like you got a good family network tho, just can't understand how one gp says one thing and another something else x

Watfordgirl profile image
Watfordgirl in reply to Claire934

Hi Claire, not sure what you mean by that, and what the two doctors said? You can treat the same lung condition with antibiotics and/or steroids. One gets rid of infection, the other reduces inflammation and eases symptoms.

It's hard for you now because you have to wait for the breathing tests and therefore more information about what you have or haven't got. You don't know what you're dealing with yet. So look after yourself, and come back here anytime. There's always someone at home!

And belatedly, welcome.

Take care, Sue x

One doc saying he thinks it asthma and my regular doc thinks it chronic bronchitis so do I take it that the breathing test will tell me what I got then? X

Welcome to the British Lung Foundation forum.

We've got all sorts of lung conditions here and at all sorts of stages.

GPs know a little bit about many things that's why he/she is sending you for lung function tests and X-ray. In the UK we have to be patient for results. If you haven't got an appointment through in a couple of weeks contact your GP. Most of my referrals got 'lost' . One thing most of us has learnt is to be proactive with our conditions, that way you stand a better chance of getting a proper diagnosis, good treatment to enhance your life and get more healthy.

Good luck to you, you were right to visit us, knowledge is the key. Peege
