A warm welcome from me wetpuppy123.

I should go see your doctor to refer you for tests. How can they possibly diagnose without?

p.s. If you right click on the photo, which is lovely of you both, and click on "open image in new tab" you will see the photo the right way up.

Welcome to the site Wetpuppy, maybe you could give us more information on how you're feeling. Usually with pleurisy, they can hear it with the stethoscope. Doesn't sound like either of them are very good. What are you symptoms? 😊 Rubyxx

Hi, you have my sympathies as I have had both pleurisy and muscular pain.....do you have any other symptoms such as a temperature or shortness of breath.I think you can hear pleurisy with a stethoscope ....or a blood test may show you have an infection.

If you are in the UK ...the BLF have a helpline which is open during office hours .

If you feel no better I would go back to the doctor.

Believe neither, until you've had some proper tests done. Doctors can be wrong. You won't know which one is right until you've had tests done and seen the results.

The pain started Tuesday evening, I came in from work didn't feel ill but felt really tired, fell fast asleep for half hour, had tea, then the pain started, thought it was wind at first, it was low down behind ribs left side. It gradually got worse, ant-acids did nothing. By 10 pm I couldn't lie or sit with my back against anything , I was more comfortable standing.

I took 2 x 30 mg codeine and repeated every four hours, it didn't touch me , the pain got worse but was now behind whole iof my left ribs up to my collar bone. I'd had no sleep, felt shocking

Went to docs, he said it was a gastro infection because I'd had diorriah since Saturday previous, he sent me off with gaviscone and omeprazole. The pain steadily got worse, I had no other symptoms except pain, I could nt breath deadly.

Wednesday night I was upset didn't know what to do with my self, still couldn't lie or lean back. Husband rang 111. Paramedics came did Ecg , temp etc , everything normal, thought it was muscular / skeletal. Still taking codeine I added ibuprofen , instantly I felt more comfortable, I was able to lie back and sleep. The pain started to change

Thursday am- pain still there but different, I couldn't breath deeply, feels like a knife is twisting in my lung. Husband rang Drs , a different one came to see me, he listened to my chest said he thought it was pleurisy to carry on with pain killers

Friday dr rang asked me to go back later, saw original dr, he now thinks it's muscular.

I do feel better than I did, but I can't make sudden movements or deep breath, I've reduced codeine but still taking ibuprofen , just feel incredibly weak

Sorry it's like war n peace!

Hi again, had you done anything on the Tuesday that might have caused you to pull a muscle.

I know I had an intense pain after I twisted and bent over hoovering my car.....but that started with a sharp sudden pain which spread.

I have also had inflammation of the intercostal muscles, and on another occasion broke a rib coughing.

Are you short of breath at all, apart from not being able to breathe deeply..

Has your GP suggested an X-ray if things do not improve.

Best wishes

Hi Knitter, nothing memorable happened the day it started, I am active in a non excercise way and I presume muscles can be pulled in the simplest of ways. I felt a lot better Sunday managed no pain killers until I went to bed. I can only lie on my back and as soon as I lay down the pain was there, it was intense in my shoulder straight through to my back. I took ibuprofen and codeine, I had to repeat during the night. I am short of breath but not constantly, I do feel better but not well enough to go to work
