I am a 70 y.o male and I have COPD for 28 years, now stage 3. There are no clinics I attend and I live on my own, also do everything for myself. I moved from the UK to abroad for the warmer climate 10 years ago and it has worked out wonderfully well. Certainly would not be alive now if not moved abroad. I am not registered with a Dr anywhere as my problems,when they occur possibly every 3 years are dealt with by the superb local hospital which I mange to drive to. As it is higher up my breathing improves a minute fraction but for me it is a lot. My medicine has been changed over the years but by the local hospital,not my then UK Dr. I take Symbicort 400 twice a day and Spiriva morning only. I do not cough or have extreme mucus.
I lead quite an active life,as much as posso and have very few "down" days.

What a lovely cheerful post - I am very happy for you. It certainly seems you could not have made a better choice for your health. I presume you have also changed and improved your diet and exercise regime now too. Wouldn't it be lovely if everyone with a lung problem could do just as you have done, and reap the benefits. Are you still on medication too?
I wish you everything you wish for yourself in the future.
We could do with more posts like that.. makes you feel it's possibly a lighter load than you thought. I'm considering a move abroad when OH retires. Where have you gone?

I have not changed my diet.in fact I eat very little and probaly not very well according to the "experts".A little of what you fancy does you good. A litre of beer a day keeps the Dr away. As I have always been a beer drinker this i normal for me. I am 5`9" and 180lbs and look 10 years younger than my 70. By nature I am a happy person and I do think I am fortunate to be so as I think it helps immensely. I will not be institutionalized as when I can not look after myself and do what I want when I want I am out of here. My only advice would be to keep away from people. Also a good singalong with the morning cup of tea and a vigorous little dance maybe. Solo of course. Works for me.
I knew it !!! I knew there MUST be people out there that had lived long and well for many years with COPD.
I guessed they simply don't feel they need to join a forum because they're doing fine. Nor do they think like you, that sharing their positive experience, will give hope to people worrying about their future. Thank you so muchh,for taking the time to let us know it's true.

Thank you Casper. You are right about the clinics. I was told at Huntingdon Hospital,Cambs clinic 25 years ago I was wasting my time attending because nothing could be done for me. So,I just got on with it doing what I thought. One regret is that I did not stop smoking earlier.
Anyway, today is another good day for me so I will get out and about and enjoy it.
