As a child of the 60s I've always been a fan of Simon and Garfunkel but was recently introduced the this version of The Sounds of Silence by my "metal head grandson" . I like it!

It's great to see that your Grandson likes the words and music, and I have listened to this version and enjoyed it, but for me personally the soul is not there. Simon and Garfunkel broke the mould with each piece they wrote and performed. I like heavy metal too - Iron Maiden, AC/DC.

My grandson is only 9 years old but, like you, likes AC/DC. He went with his parents to the Download festival last weekend to see Iron Maiden, Saxon and Black Sabbath and loved it despite getting very muddy. Fortunately he doesn't really understand the language!!

It runs in the family cos I like some heavy stuff too, but also opera, musicals, heavy rock etc etc. Grandson and I havealso been known to dance to Beethoven's 6th too

Oh lynn, so sorry but when the Graduate was released I was 14, that was my introduction to Simon & Garfunkel and the purity of their sound.

I still love the awkwardness of Dustin Hoffman as he was seduced and so many special memories that no other band or group could conjure for me from all of their original music.

It's okay but (for me) will never open the floodgates to those memories.

Sorry ....

I still like the Simon and Garfunkel version too - it's just a different sound but equally good in my opinion

Yes, so do I - and I didn't expect to 'cos I'm a huge Simon and Garfunkel fan. It's a different take on a great song - not a better one, just different.

Heard SoS by Disturbed, thought it was great in a different way from Simon and Garfunkel, the anger shown in the video was a superb addition to the song and as a grandfather it gives me another level of connection to my 3 grandkids, for that alone I love it☺

I think it's a wonderful song and apart from the strong bass tones of the singer here can't see that much of a difference.

Heavy metal ? He has violins, cellos and a Timpani drum providing the music. That's not what I'd call heavy metal.

It's different for sure and makes more of an impact because of the strength of this guy's voice and the fact that he's singing solo. But let's be very honest here, in the higher registers his voice is dreadful and he ends up screeching. The slow delivery also differs from the S&G version and does make the lyrics more powerful.

I agree with Magpuss and think she put it really well. It's a different take on the song. Not better, just different.

Hi BJ, it is the band which is described as Heavy Metal, not this song. I didn't find it screechy but an improvement on the original, which I always thought bland. Each to their own, hey? And yes, Tony posted it originally.

Well obviously I prefer bland and boring :) I was puzzled by the reference to Heavy Metal when I saw all the violins. I actually do like it but think the original is a classic and you can't mess with a classic :)

Actually, I really love this version...!
