Hi all sorry for not being on much I hope all is as good as can be, I am back to work fulltime it was hard work but worth it, I have a 3 day assessment in Freemans Hospital Newcastle transplant Unit in July and have just found out if you want to book an Ambulance service they want £300 has anyone else had this problem and is there another way round it.

Hi Matt great to see your doing so well after all the troubles you had I'm in hospital at the moment on high oxygen and your post has just given me a boost to realise that things can get better Don't know anything about an ambulance to Newcastle but that seems really unfair how else are people supposed to get there if they can't afford that type of money All the best matt

Lovely to 'see' you Matt. Well done for getting back to work. There is no way I would pay that for an ambulance. Try contacting your MP and letting them negotiate it - sometimes works wonders. Good luck. xx

Wonderful to see you on here again Matt.

Pete gets a free small ambulance to the Brompton in London when he needs to go there.

Good news for you and take care. Xxx

Hi Mattrass, just looked at their site neas.nhs.uk/ and can't see any mention of theft, sorry, charges for the services povided from the taxes we already pay!

Might be worth an email (put "COMPLAINT" in the subject line as this ALWAYS gets a response) asking them to explain, justify and what they do to comply with Equality Legislation to provide access to services.

Sounds like you got the village idiot (well, every village has one) instead of the caring support of the NHS

Glad to hear from you xxx

There are often volunteer drivers that help at hospitals, perhaps you could ask at yours?

Hi Mattcass, hope all goes well next month at Newcastle, sorry to hear it costs so much for ambulance. Just a thought would a hire vehicle with driver maybe cheaper, but guess not. If your income is low could you not claim it back from the NHS ? , under the travel to hospital scheme? I would ask the hospital you are attending for advice on this as rules are constantly changing. Best Wishes and do take care.
