My big boy

My big boy

Azure -Sky here is the photo of Cooper taken in Spain about three years ago I think he is even bigger now. One of John's friends was terrified of him, said he was a wild animal. Take care Rosabeth

He is one big beautiful cat! Was he this big when he first came to live with you?

Jennifer-S, No he was big but he was only about 9-10 months old. After a couple of months wen I realised we were not going to find his owners I took him to be neutered, I took him in a carrier but when I collected him it was a different vet who broughout a still dopey Cooper in his arms. As he put him in my arms he said with his French accent " That ees not a cat, it is a leetle dog" and he still grew more after that. He is a gentle giant but his only fault is that when you stop stroking him he will grab your hand with his teeth it's only a love bite and doesn't hurt but if you snatch your hand away then you an get a slight graze. L always warn people he bites just to be on the safe side this I think is why John's friend was so scared of him. We did have friend who loved him and used to torment the life out of him with a feather duster. We warned him repeatedly that if got hurt it was his own fault but one day he stopped playing and was just standing talking with the duster still in his hand, suddenly Cooper jumped up and grabbed his hand trying to get the duster so there was Fred with twenty pounds of cat hanging from his hand. His wife and I said you asked for it and it serves you right for tormenting him so much ( Cooper actually loved it and was really asking for more). The problem was Fred's hand went septic and he ended up in A&E. I bet you are all thinking that he never went near the cat again, wrong he was just as bad and Cooper went on adoring him. Have a good day I have only had two hours sleep and have to go out so I am not having a good start as I just want to go to sleep. Rosabeth

Once you have a pet it is amazing the stories and anecdotes that pop up.  He sounds a real toughie - to have survived like he did before he chose to come and live with you!.........leetle dog - makes me smile:-)

I hope you can catch up with some shut eye during the day.

xx

Hi Rosabeth.                                                  Cooper is one big handsome cat. What does he like to eat? Seems he would have a pretty good appetite. We have a 17 lb. cat. He doesn't really eat a lot. Mostly wants cat treats !Don't they all.   He is most gorgeous,  Rosabeth.                Rubyxx 😊

Hi Rubyred777 Cooper eats dry food Ultimate or Iams he really doesn't eat very much I know he looks quite fat on the photo but he is really a fairly slender boy it's the way I am holding him and all the fur seems to have bunched up he was wriggling as he does not like being picked up he prefers to come to us. He has a very large frame with enormous feet. He has a little fresh fish twice a week and a few mouthfuls of chicken when we have one but he only eats a little and if he's had enough he just leaves it. He does like to lick a yoghurt pot when I have finished and he goes on licking it long after tree is none left. He likes to drink running water from the tap and can only do this if one of us is there to turn on the tap so I bought them a cat drinking fountain so they have running water at all times. I will send one or two more photos separately. Goodnight all I have managed to stay awake all day and am looking forward to a good nights sleep I wish the same for all of you. Rosabeth.

Cooper is gorgeous. I looked up wild cats in Spain and this page came up. I wonder if Cooper has a little bit of wild cat in his DNA. I then found the second link on Wikipedia.

Hi Azure-Sky, many thanks for the info on Spanish wild cats seeing the photos makes me think he must have some genes from these wild cats tha tail is identical there were quite a few feral cats about with similar markings and always quite big cats. When we acquired Cooper it was a holiday week with lots of Spanish descending on the coast. I was working in one of my daughters shops and on arrival Cooper tried to get in my car. He followed me to the shop and hung around, he was in perfect condition though on the thin side and was very hungry. I thought he would just wander off but in the end I gave in went and bought some cat food which he couldn't eat quick enough and then sat outside on a rock for about an hour then he dissapeared but he kept reappearing then I saw him being chased by two large dogs down the middle of a busy road. I was so worried about him and said if he was about when I went home I would take him with me and try to find his owners I then named him Toby as it was a case of to be or not to be. By the time I went home at three when my daughter arrived I hadn't seen him for over an hour thank goodness he must have gone home. No at 8.30 I got a frantic call from my daughter who hadn't seen him once during the day, Mum can you come and get this cat it's jumped in my car and settled on the back seat and won't get out he tried to bite us when we tried to pick him up. She had four large dogs so couldn't take him home. It was a bitterly cold night and was sleeting and blowing a gale but out came the car for a 30 minute drive armed with cat carrier my husband was out so I was on my own, when I got there I just leaned in the car scooped him up popped him in the carrier and the rest is history. My daughter lived in the opposite direction to me so she had come to meet me halfway. She didn't like the name Toby so he became Javvy as he was found in Javea ( pronounced Havvy) this we found is a popular mans name and my son in law had a friend called Javvy and we never knew if he was talking about his friend or The cat and I wasn't keen on the name as I didn't think it suited him so Cooper he became. My other cats took to him from the start and my cats have an outside run and however long we leave an outside door open he has never once tried to go out so we think he was brought to Javea by Spanish holiday makers, possibly unknown to them and was trying to get in a car thinking it would take him back home and he doesn't want to leave the security of the house as he thinks he might get lost again. It would also explain why extensive searching never produced any results even the locals said they had never seen him before. He doesn't know that I had him chipped so I would always find him. HE'S MINE.

I hope you slept as well as I did last night 8 1/2 hours. Have a good day. Rosabeth

wow, thanks for the link, I never knew such an animal existed.  We have 'bob-cats' but they are very distinct with their pointy fluffs on cheeks and short, stubby tails.

I have been looking for this post to thank you I found it extremely interesting the photos could actually be Cooper down to the last hair on his tail. Thanks again. Rosabeth

Cooper is gorgeous!  Don't mean to sound disrespectful but George's friend sounds very fragile and scary.  Maybe he needs therapy?

Take care
