Dry skin

I wanted to know if anyone who has coped experience very dry flaky skin and peeling of feet no matter how much Vaseline I use it goes away but only to return in a week or so is this normal for people with copd

I don't think so I have dry patches on my elbows and found out the dry patches were psoriasis I would see your gp about it

I have that problem too, the only solution is to use moisturiser. There is E45, Aqueous Cream or Diprobase which is available on prescription. I use Skin Salvation on my palms which also peel.

I have no idea whether it is connected to COPD as I had dry skin before I was diagnosed with emphysema.

Hi ladybug....check out Vashtis post from three days ago called ...it's not just me then.....there's quite a lot about dry skin on that post.

Remember if you are on oxygen ....please seek official advice on skin care.....only some products can be used with oxygen

I suffer from exactly the same untill my GP prescribed me Double Base gel. Within days I could see a big difference. Hope this helps. Jenny

My silicone mask (sleep apnoea) causes dry skin around the bridge of the nose and sides of the nose. I can't use petroleum based products because of the mask so recently purchased RoEslt Derma Care from the British Snoring Association. Quite expensive for a small tube (about £8 inc P&P) but, it's really different, non-greasy, disappears into the skin almost instantly and 12 hours later the skin still feels smoother.

Might be worth a look - can't believe that, at 62, I'm on here discussing skin moisturising, me being a bloke and all that ;-))

Who cares anyway if you are m or f ? I believe we are in the age of enlightenment for use of a better word.

I'm glad it is working and it is a helpful answer to people who need to find something that suits them

I too suffered from dry skin on the face. My GP gave me some cream but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. Anyway, I read the label on E45 cream and found it helped all sorts of dry skin problems in all sorts of places. Since using it my skin has completely improved.

Not sure if it is connected with COPD. Could be, as you might be atopic,. This is an allergy relating to Asthma, Eczema and Hay Fever. Asthma, of course, being one of the lung diseases.

Hello Ladybug 5052, I have dry skin on my shins, much worse in cold weather. Put it down to thinning skin of age, not COPD. I use things like Savelon an old fashioned remedy was to rub butter on, my mum used to swear by nivea cream to moisturise the skin. Have to try different things till you find one to suit. x

Hi I'm not sure if it's COPD causes the dry skin as much as the medication. My daughter is a qualified beauty therapist, she has asthma and barely recently has been put on Symbicort and she has noticed both her nails and skin have become very dry. We were only talking about it the other day and came to the conclusion it the medication. My skin (& nails) are extremely dry. I use Nivea moisturiser.

Perhaps it's the steroid in our medication. It thins the skin and depletes bone density so perhaps that's the culprit? P

Yes, I too have very bad flaking feet, but mine doesn't go away - especially sore on ankles and back of heel. I have tried everything - Salcura, Double Base, Epiderm etc. Someone advised using Vick! Haven't tried it yet but I guess there is no harm in trying it

I remember being at the Royal Brompton Hospital being diagnosed with severe COPD and one of the Doctors there said that fingernails and skin are affected by our medications.( steroids and AB's). So that's what I put my skin issues down to. Diet probably plays a part also. My skin seems to be so thin on my hands and lower arms that a slight bang against anything, will make it bleed. As for feet-always having to moisturise my heels with E45.

Probably more to do with the medications. Ask your Doctor for Double Base gel from Dermal labs; I get it on prescription and its wonderful stuff.

Hi Ladybug, Yes I had the same thing and my COPD nurse prescribed Double Base gel

and it works a treat. You can buy it on Amazon but I've always got it from my GP's surgery.

I have psoriasis and have been prescribed Doublebase Gel for some years now and it works quite well. I am also Insulin Dependent Diabetic and hypothyroid both of which can cause dry skin conditions. I spoke to my dermatologist a month ago and she recommended I use Dermo cream. She gave me a couple of sample tubes and I am quite impressed. I bought some off Amazon for £12 for 500 grams and have now found that you can get it on prescription, never mind next time. On recommendation I use both he Doublebase and the Dermo as a soap "substitute soap"which helps enormously.

My skin is also very dry and even have flaky bits in my shoes even though I wear socks. The inside of my trousers are the same. I use emollients . don't know if it has anything to do with COPD though.

Thanks im starting to think also may be due to meds or me not drinking enough water have always had dry skin but never this extreme because i also have flakes in my bed in my pants bra but those areas have cleared up its mainly back of my arm legs and feet now

I have noticed my skin seems thinner since taking steroids. I can now see tiny veins on the back of my hands which are always sore and peeling. On the 1st day of using double bass gel my sister in-law gave me to try which she gets from her GP. If it does help I will ask my GP for a pres ription .

My skin got worse recently badly flaking skin on the soles of my feet and on the lower part of my palms. Doctor prescribed Trimovate for the flaking skin.

The rest of my skin it itchy and sensitive to the touch. even my bones feel sore.
