Happy St . David's Day to you. We shall be celebrating with Cawl (Welsh lamb soup) and picau ar y maen (Welsh cakes). It took me about half an hour to get that through autocorrect. Going to have breakfast now.

Thanks Sassy. I will do despite this cold. My other half although a Yorkshire man through and through also celebrates because his Mum and Dad met here during the war, Though his Mum did go back to Yorkshire to get married and ensured all her children were born in Yorkshire wherever she may have been living.

I am an exiled non Welsh speaker, or rather very limited Welsh speaker.
I remember St David's Day as a child....eisteddfods, daffodils and leeks.
I will wear my daffodil earrings today and eat some home grown leeks.
I will try and remember St Patrick's , St George and St Andrews Days too, so no one feels left out at least in Britain and Ireland.
Took me ages to get that down and I am never sure whether the Dewi should mutate to Ddewi some people say yes and some say no I think the majority of us leave Dewi with one D.
An archive BBC website explains the mutation....don't know whether I understand it though. Dewi for the day , and Ddewi for the festival....I think!
The thought of you trying to get the Welsh language passed the predictive text and through the spell checker made me laugh - I bet there was some cussing going on! Problem is - I still don't know how to pronounce anything that's written in Welsh 🤔😊 Happy St David's day!

Can l book a table for two ( me and Mr V ) for 1pm, the soup sounds absolutely delicious, and will be a lovely lunch....if you are cooking Roast leg of Lamb, can l alter our booking to two for dinner at 7pm.

I say it is soup but really it is a stew. And we drop cubes of cheese and bread in it when we serve it. Normally I would cook lamb on the Sunday before and use the bones and left overs to make the Cawl but had beef on Sunday so have bought some lamb to make my Cawl. Though of making it last night as it always tastes better the second day but feeling low and third with this cold so have to move myself and make it this morning,
I will make sure your table is ready.
My grandmother made Cawl with rabbit and always said it tasted better the second day.....I would never eat the meat though only the veg.
Chicken soup is good for colds too...I hope you feel better soon.
Cawl just means soup or stew so it can be any meat but Welsh lamb is best for today! Having said that I absolutely adore rabbit stew so very tasty. My cousin's brother-in-law was in the Welsh National shooting team and we quite often used to get up on Sunday mornings and find a rabbit or a brace of pheasant or partridge or duck hanging on the door handle! Sometimes he would also fish for trout or salmon. Hen he got a serious girlfriend and we don't get those lovely surprises any more.

My daughter lived in Wales for a few years & 2 of her children were born there. I loved to go & visit, it's a beautiful country & it's scenery is very like Scotland.
I love the Welsh accent & the people are all so friendly.

Happy St David's Day Sian - sorry you're not feeling well at the moment. Lousy day weatherwise too which doesn't help does it ? For those who probably don't know, I only live a few miles from Sian & we go to the same BreatheEasy Group. Not really funny, but years ago I used to work in a Filling Station & one of our regular customers always came in extremely fraught & flustered. I think she had four children so she was entitled too !!!!! Anyway, the twin girls were about five at the time & she came in more fraught than ever on this particular St David's Day. Apparently the Twins had been sent off to school looking like little angels in their Welsh costumes complete with real Daffodil but one of them had decided to eat hers so ( as Daffodils are poisonous) they had spent the day in A&E !!!! I expect that story is wheeled out every year in that family. 😂
Hi Helen...I remember the boys used to wear leeks....some of them were real and they used to eat them raw. Maybe that's where the little girl got the idea from.

I am surprised more children didn't eat daffodils, safer to give them leeks. They could still make themselves sick but at least they are not pisonous. Definitely go into my sinuses now. Have not been out since Saturday. Breathing is OK still but have headache and can't "pop" my ears. Very tired and s little dizzy sometimes. Wondering whether or not to start on my antibiotics. Taking sudafed which generally works for me. As the sinus bit only started yesterday will give it anothe few days in the hope that it clears. Des was up early to but the rubbish out this morning so I feel tired enough to go back to bed already!
