Isn't it great though to know that you are not alone in the dark, and shortly it will be coming light at threeish, so there will be more and more of us getting up not long after going to bed. Where else can you get good advice and a shoulder to cry on? This is certainly the place to get a quick response and sensible advice almost immediately.

Yes l am late getting up...l had the toddling twins , Mayham and Chaos...my grandchildren, yesterday.
I had a lovely day, but l was worn out last night...l went to bed at 9pm...unheard of for me.
OK today and full of energy after my mugs of tea 😂
I have just looked out of the window and my car is covered in bloody ice !!!!

I do miss my dog, he always gave me the incentive to get out and go for a walk...not as enjoyable without him.

I am with you on that velvet - are you not well enough to have another dog? Some bad mornings it is an effort for me but once we are out, and there is never any doubt that we won't make it unless I were to be extremely poorly, big nose makes sure. We have a great time, and I get to see a lot more because being a male dog he has to cock his leg in a million places and sniff everything that is over an inch high. I stand and wait and look up and around and make sure we don't tread in anything that someone else has deposited.. I enjoy his company. Back home and ice broken on the bird bath, Blackbirds fed with sultanas, Robin- mealworms (yuk) and various other garden birds fed, apart from that I have yet to refill the niger containers. I don't know where it all goes - mostly on the soil methinks.
Merlin all fed and watered, his blankets washed and on the line, cup of coffee at my side, bacon under the grill and am now feeling very virtuous. Windows need a wash but I am looking at 5 lemons of the verge of looking elderly - so choices have to be made....make marmalade or clean windows or have another cup of coffee. I'm dry with talking now so coffee first I think.

I would love another dog...l have to regulary drive by Woodside a massive RSPCA rescue and rehoming shelter in leicester. My last 3 dogs have been from there.
Now Mr V are retired, we want to be able to drop everything and go away if we fancy it.
I hate the trauma of putting my dog in kennels, and we have nobody to look after them. I looked into having people who board dogs in their own home, but the cost is too much.

I quite understand velvet. It must be painful going past there, but you are right. Your time with your husband is too precious
There is nothing like just taking off somewhere together. When we had the hotel we were lucky in that my stepdaughter would come and live in and look after our then dog Sandy (and have wild parties but we won't mention that) whilst we were away - always out of season of course.
I'd have a houseful if I could, but being realistic I try not to see tales of dogs needing rehoming in the papers or on the internet as I get too upset. Alex was not very happy about taking Merlin in as an 11 months old pup - he kept on about our age, but I scoffed and put my foot down, then he sadly died and I really do not know how I would have coped with his death if it had not been for greedy guts - he grieved alongside me and we are coming to terms with it together. I don't want or need a holiday any more. I am content and love my home that we chose together for our retirement.
Phew - does this woman ever stop talking....oh and it is hail/snow now. Off to rescue the washing.

True. I am sure you would do that too. An animal bred for showing - then he started developing all his problems - no - it was a business and he was not going to make them any money - Vet's bills would have been astronomical so there was no sentiment involved on their part. We gave a donation to Labrador Rescue and grabbed him.

How about fostering a dog for a while? Dogs for the deaf and blind are usually fostered to give them a taste of a normal life. x

Merlin has s.a. in his case it is severe arthritis Andy, but it is probably not the answer you are looking for - he has Tramadol 3/4 times a day.

I took tramadol a few weeks ago...and one today..

What a group! Only just stopped for a spot of lunch and a quick look at the posts - didn't know I'd need the whole afternoon to catch up!
Sa = Sleep apnoea (along with moderate COPD, Osteoarthritis of the knees & nail (yup - weird) psoriasis)
I'm told I need to keep active for the COPD, limit exercise for the knees, take immune suppressing tablets for psoriasis and a machine to breathe at night - what a mess but I still manage to work (from home mostly).
Dogs: Grumpy old Border Collie (grumpy 'cause I trained him!) and a Yorkie who thinks he's a lot bigger than he really is. Will have them both on the Derbyshire moorland on Saturday morning (2 hours - one mile but I enjoy it and so do they)
Couldn't imagine life without the little friends, always book pet friendly cottages around the UK so they go on holiday everywhere with us.
Sunshine seems to have departed now so I might settle for catching up a couple of hours sleep this afternoon!
