But it is mostly going to clobber the poor sassy, like most if not all of their schemes. It is inhuman. Are they trying to eliminate the poorer people from this world?

But we are not supposed to live long enough to draw a pension are we? Didn't they see us all off when they cut our benefits, had a company throw most of us off DLA/PIP and crippled the NHS?

I have been listening to politicians today...but I just wish they would remember it is taxpayers money they are spending...not theirs. They are our representatives.
Sorry knitter, but I think that should read 'they are SUPPOSED to be our representatives', something they seem to forget once in office, along with all the promises they made during an election. I rarely get involved but this just incensed me. They are doing it little by little and we complain but stoically accept. I feel it is time to man the barricades, not that I could, lol. Surely enough is enough?

I rarely lock my posts because I only found the site because of an unlocked post, and there is nothing that needs to be kept just amongst us in the subject matter. 
I also heard about the 'Gulag' of the Shirebrook workers. Disgraceful all around but somehow it continues.
Shirebrook is a town broken by Thatcher during the miners strike. It's on the Derbys/Notts border and when I was at school there, every village had its own pit. The miners were hard working and proud and fathers and sons often worked in different counties as was the norm. When the Notts miners broke away from the NUM and with government support continued to work, the division amongst families was truly dreadful. When Thatcher finally battered the striking miners into submission with the militia tactics employed by the Sweeney on steroids from the Met and incentivised overtime payments, the fallout was a broken community which has never recovered. Two senior Democratic Union of Mineworkers who were key figures in the scab miner movement have subsequently been arrested and done time for fraud.
There is a documentary on BBC1 tonight on Inside Out at 7:30 which looks at the murky world of Sports Direct owned by Newcastle United multi millionaire owner Mike Ashby which buses in foreign, mainly East European workers on zero hours contracts to work in its distribution depot. A triumph for Thatcherite economics, Its worth a look at the Brave New World of work the Tories aspire to.
Hi, ws. Living in the Yorkshire coalfields means I am aware of the history. Thanks for the heads up, but I doubt I'll watch tonight as I am under no illusions as to the present state of our country. That woman and her followers have a lot to answer for.
My late grandmother and mother used to speak of life in the twenties and thirties.....I know we don't have tin baths and candles now ( not yet anyway) ....before the welfare state .

One last word.....our local MP is excellent, a good listener and campaigner...but he doesn't play party politics , to his own detriment I guess.

Was expected the poorest would loose as usual, don't know how some will cope on this new pension idea it is too late for many to change their arrangements for retirement. Nothing changes if you are a low paid worker you will be a low paid pensioner too.
Another issue here is the pension rises are only 2.5% but for instance our rates have gone up by 30% and rebates have been reduced to meet Government target cuts, this is just one area where we are expected to accept cuts and pay more for the privilege. So even those on comfortable means now will not survive the future cuts or rises.

I have been trying to find up to date information on MP s meal subsidies.
I know the Lords get a political Attendance Allowance of between £150 to £300 a sitting if they do not recieve a salary.
I know "taxpayers’ subsidy for the bars and restaurants in the Houses of Commons has risen to £5.8m a year, despite promises by parliamentary official to cut public funding for politicians’ meals and drinks."
The crux of the matter is that it`s a case of "I`m alright Jack" They really don`t know or care what it`s like to be part of the society they`ve created. They`ll be able to afford care for their elderly relatives, nannies so that their wives can continue with their wellpaid careers ( sometimes as secretary to them) and have extra lucrative jobs.
Some start out with high moral ideas but become corrupted once they grow used to money and status. Up the revolution ! Sheila xx
