Hi Humairaa10, a very warm welcome to you.

Do you have a lung condition?

Do you take meds or inhalers?

If you would like to tell us a bit about your condition, I'm sure someone will be able to help you.

Take care 🌺

No I have not got any lung conditions I have a bad cough and that's about it. The phlegm is just stuck there and I can't sleep.

Hi, have you tried salt water gargling? If you did it at least three times a day that would help clear the phlegm. You need to do it regularly for a few days to get results.

Drink a lot of water. A thick sticky mucous might mean that you are not sufficiently hydrated. Taking water or liquids like soup would help in thinning of this phlegm,

Sometimes it's food that can aid in mucous formation. You should avoid fried food, refined foods, dairy food and not eat heavy meals.

Fresh fruits & vegetables should help.

Maybe something here will help 🌷

I think you would be better going to see your GP. It sounds like you might have an infection. Could be upper respiratory. You won't know till you get it checked out. You may need antibiotics.

Good luck 🌸

Hi

It is horrible when you can't get rid of sputum. A mucolytic helps to thin the mucous out, making it easier to bring up. You could also try huffing - youtube.com/watch?v=fqZUt3c...

My son in law has asthma and has something very similar. He has a cough too but can't shift the phlegm. I would maybe see your GP just to check things out. X

Hi coloured phlegm usually means an infection so you need to see your doctor for anti-biotics. x

Hello,I was diagnosed with COPD in 2008 ,Hard to breath,Lack of wind,Out of breath when exerting any effort..

I had a lot of phelm in my chest that I just couldn't move and it was mainly when I laid on my back in bed..so a few raised pillows which I found did help but my chest was whistling so kept me awake.

The Chest clinic at KGV Barley lane Ilford prescibed "SINGULAIR" 10 mg Tablet (MONTELUKAST) It is mainly used for allergy treatment,They also prescibed "CARBOCISTEINE" 375MG Capsules (mucodyne) which done the trick!..By bringing the phelm to one area and coughing up easilly which cured me of that problem

It was then easier to cough it up all in one go Brilliant work by KGV Nurses who knew exactly what to try for me..Unfortunately KGV chest clinic has now been cut as a cost cutting policy by his knibs DC 1st minister

Try asking your GP for them? They will work and hopefully you will be rid of that awful feeling of drowning in Phelm

"SINGULAIR" 10 mg Tablet (MONTELUKAST)

"CARBOCISTEINE" 375MG Capsules (mucodyne)

Other way round ... Singulair is Montelukast, for sure.

If you think you've got a cold, try a proprietary Hot Lemon that contains Phenylephrine, it'll help clear that mucus and get a decent nights sleep - don't use for more than 7 days as you risk rebound.

As previously advised you could take hot salty gargles in the day and take the hot lemon at night.

Hi, I have COPD and have problems clearing my airways too. Firstly, drink plenty of fluid. This will help to thin out the mucus.

Years ago I used to take Ammonia and Ipecacuanha. I used to have it made up at the local chemist. The the interfering E.U. stuck their noses in and it stopped being available. On reading of your problem I did a search and found that Chemist Direct have it advertised.

If unavailable any medicine with Ipecacuanha in it should do the trick. Cheers.

Ipecac induces vomiting and overuse can cause asthma so care needs to be taken by anyone using it.

Perhaps, more water. A roughly generalized rule is for each 100# body weight, drink 2/3 it's weight, in water... so, it's 67% of your body's weight. For 100#, that would be about 67 ounces/day. If you weigh around 150#, drink 100 ounces/day. That is assuming now physical workouts, and little sweating. If it's hot, and you sweat some out, increase the amount by 10-12 ounces. Look at one of those bottles of water, they are (usually) 16 ounces.. so then, 7 per day would be enough water, being 112 ounces.

I know for a fact that I drink nowhere near the amount that is good for us, but when I get thick phlegm and DO drink what I actually should have, it thins out significantly and is much easier to remove and not have stuck back there! ..Or down in the lungs, rattling around.

Coffee doesn't count towards that total, but a thin herbal tea can.

I have had a wracking cough for 10 years, 2 months ago i finally got to put a name to it. Cough Hypersensitivity Syndrome, i take a low dose of Morphine morning and night. that helped for a few years and now we are trying other meds with the Morphine and things are looking up. But if i dont take meds the whole world knows about it.
