Humidifier

Did you know you can make a humidifier to fight your winter colds with your slow-cooker? Just take your slow cooker into the bedroom, fill it with water and add either eucalyptus oil or a dollop of Vicks vaporub. Then, turn it on low with the lid off, and you will wake up breathing much easier.

Lol.

What a good idea! Thanks Toci.

Thanks toci, I do use my slow cooker it's a big one as I feed the hungry mob , but this sounds like a" great must try ", might invest in a cheap smaller one to try it. Xx Sonia xx

I bought one for my daughter that has become too small. She replaced it and now the 'spare' one can have other uses. x

That's a great tip Toci. I'm going to pass it on to my don and DIL as well. The little grandson had croup at the moment and they're boiling kettles in his room. This sounds much more efficient.

It works well except you need to take care re open pans of hot water in a child's room.

Yes, of course.

Wow that's a good tip Toci. I would never in a million years think of that. x

I'd use vinegar to clean it out with.

Clever idea TOCI, but the smell of "Vicks" etc., hangs around at the best of times, so how can you get rid of it from the slow cooker? I wouldn't want to be "tasting" that every time I cook something. XX

To all those worrying about after-taste - I use a spare slow cooker so cannot guarantee anything but as the Vics is in the water, not smeared on the pan I see no reason for it to linger. The pan certainly does not smell of it.

Leave out the Vicks etc, & put a couple of eggs in it... and you've got the breakfast, too.. lol

But the slow cooker is a seriously good idea. I'll be trying it if I get a cold.. touch wood, I'm dodging in at the moment...

Toci what a brilliant idea ! I don`t use my slow cooker so I`ll certainly make use of it this way. Cheers, Sheila x

As a safety precaution I want to mention that anyone who is using oxygen should not have Vicks Vaporub or any other petroleum product on their person or near the oxygen. It can result in very nasty burns.

Good to reiterate that. Thanks, Brondana.
