Is it possible to have (or feel) asthma in only one lung?

I've had a dry cough and irritation in my right lung only, especially when it's cold and I'm being active, for about 4 months. I'm currently being checked for asthma, but I would have thought I'd feel asthma in both lungs - the left one has never given me problems.

Hi. I wonder if your possible airway disease could be caused by reflux? I have the same sensation (neither asthma nor copd but called 'small airways disease/bronchiolitis' in mainly the right lung and, for me, likely attributable to the aspiration/possible silent reflux that shoots/trickles down the bronchi of my right lung. I have a problem with muscle weakness which makes choking very problematic/dramatic for me but it can be subtle too. The position of the right bronchus predisposes to this when lying flat. There is a very interesting article about the 'Pulmonary manifestations of Gastroesophageal reflux disease' on ncbi.nlm.nih.gov (I can't seem to send it as a link, sorry). Good luck with your tests. Thanks Claire, I looked into GERD but kind of dismissed it as I'm not feeling any heartburn, and it doesn't flare up at mealtimes etc. But maybe you can get GERD without those symptoms, like you can get asthma without wheezing etc. God knows my diet is awful lol. I'll look into that :)

Apparently 30 - 80% of people with asthma have GERD. If you're happy to PM me with your email address, I can send you the link directly. Can't seem to do it via HU
