If you think you might be deficient, you can ask your gp for a blood test. Then he can prescribe a supplement if needed.

My doctor told me to take vitamin D. He actually said "Asthma, you should have Vitamin D". I take 10,000 IU daily, and purchase it on line.

What a clever Doctor Smikra. :)

Did Doctor tell you to take 10,000iu ?

A Pediatrician, for a child in my Family, said to take a multivitamin to cure a vitamin D deficiency. ??? :)

I take a teaspoon of liquid cod liver oil every morning with breakfast - an acquired taste, I know, but I have some rosehip syrup after it, just like Mum gave us in the 50s & 60s.

I take 4,000 IU daily. Plus ,if you're taking D and calcium, you should always take k2. I live in USA and get mine in the vitamin shop.

I take one Vitamin D3, 2200 IU (whatever they are!) at breakfast each morning after a wide-ranging blood test revealed a shortage of the vitamin. Perhaps it's no coincidence that two of my friends who have to take Vitamin D supplements have also suffered heart problems (I have had a pacemaker fitted and suffered from Wolff Parkinson White, while one friend has had a triple bypass and the other a new heart valve). It is suggested I take Vit D for a year and then have another blood test. You can buy it was most pharmacies, eBay or Holland and Barratt. But there are huge variations in price. John V

I use D Lux, a vitamin D oral spray from Holland and Barrett. In winter months I use the 3000iu spray and during summer months I use the 1000iu spray.

I take Vitamin D3 25mcg, one every morning . Advised for over 70s as their body doesn't absorb as well. Had a lobectomy last year so feel every little helps. Buy mine from Healthspan, but most chemists stock it.

Good luck Hilde72

I was told I was VIt D deficient last year and eventually my GP put me on a 3 month course and after that sent me for another test and the vit D was fine so he stopped it. But when stated it should be as I was taking VIt D he just ignored it. They think it is a trendy thing?

I have had 2 more infections since one of which I was taken by ambulance to A&E.

Be Well

Mo13 I am 74 years old, residing in Victoria Australia.

I had my first blood work up aged 67, major concern was my body is not producing vitamin D, even though I work for up to 8 hours outdoors per day (Farmer).

I was placed on Ostelin Vitamin D, 1000iu 3 a day for 3 months and then 1 a day

All yearly blood tests show minimum reading for vitamin D.

Last year I increased to 3 tablets per day, Count is now normal.

Best results came when I started taking the 3 tablets prior to going to bed.

Ostelin is available on line or at a pharmacy.

I like the brand as they are tiny capsules, easy to swallow and they work.

If you have not had a blood test please have one prior to starting on any meds. Talk to your Dr.

He/she will advise you best.

Kind regards

Will

You are most welcome, please use this forum as much as you need, the family here will be able to assist you with any questions you may have, but please remember we are not Dr's, always take the medics advice and if you are not satisfied, get another opinion.

We wasted 4 valuable months under one lung Dr before finding the right one.

A good diet and a fitness regime will keep you in good stead, the cannabis oil has a very good reputation, but please do not confuse "Hemp oil with it as hemp oil was,in our case, a waste of time and money.

Kind regards

Will

Hello Mo13,,,, Vitamin D,,,, 'the sunshine vitamin' the better choice is D3 and there is always discussion on dosage,,,,I would suggest you take some help from the good staff at Holland&Barrett, who are well versed in help and sell quality products,,,,there is currently a good offer on there with buy one and get something else or the same for 1p,,,did this offer myself yesterday with two items,,,,I also have their bonus card and when I paid got a slip for triple points on my next shop,,,,,love those extra points,,,, and my last voucher was for £6,,,which helps a lot,,,,,,and the money saving coupons in the Healthy Magazine,,really help to save on products,,,,always a good thing....I hope this helps you,,,ttfn from Karen.
