Seretide 250 Evohaler effectiveness.

I find that the effectiveness of Seretide Evohalers reduce during the 124 dose capacity. That is, if I use all 124 doses and then change to a new one, there is a substantial improvement in effectiveness which should not happen with metered doses. My GP even says that it DOES NOT happen!!

Can anyone comment please on which of us is right?!!

I normally throw the old one away at around 10 - 12 does showing as remaining. Is this wasteful or prudent please?

I would like to take this opportunity of wishing all on here a Very Happy New Year and may we all feel better in 2016.

Kind regards,

Eric.

Hi Eric, I have never used an evohaler I am afraid, but I do notice that my steroid preventer which is an ordinary aerosol type is not as effective towards the end ....I replace it while it still has some medication in it.. I shake it before use too.

I don't know how the evohaler differs from the aerosol though.

I hope someone else can answer your query...take care.

Hi knitter,

I thought that my Seretide inhaler was an ordinary aerosol, even though it states "Evohaler" on it!? Yours sounds the same as mine anyway, so I am going to chalk you up as a supporter!!! I'm certain that mine is not as effective near the end, or as certain as I can be. I just hope I receive a good range of comments supporting this. Thank you for yours, and do have a Happy New Year knitter.

Kind regards,

Eric.

You are supposed to use it as an 120 dose (says in the leaflet) - a couple of puffs in the air to start it off until you are at 120 then stop using when it gets to zero (000). Never noticed any difference towards the end. Are you using a spacer?

Yes, I am using an Aero spacer, small type. Seems as though I am being wasteful then.... Thank you for your reply.

Kind regards,

Eric.

There is no clinically significant difference between Volumatic and AeroChamber..if anything, in many people the AeroChamber is more effective because it requires fewer breaths to get all the medicine in.

There shouldn't be a difference; I've never noticed one, that's for sure. Maybe you are expecting a difference subconsciously? I know I feel happier when I start a new inhaler..

As for the wastefulness thing, yeah, personally I'd say it is, given that there are people in even developed countries like America who can't afford life-saving inhalers.

Hi Eric, I use a aero spacer with my preventer too, I have separate steroid preventer and a reliever as I find that works best for me.

I shake the inhaler before use, but I find the steroid one does not work as well towards the end....I have told the pharmacist but she didn't say anything.

Doctors can be wrong do what you feel is right for you. After all it is your health that matters NOT his opinion

Me and hubby are both on the Seretide, with spacers. I agree with you, the last 10 or so, are NOT as effective. GP says it's right to bin it if you notice a difference. After all, it is your health at risk, not anyone else's. Start a new inhaler as you see fit. We have 'paid' towards our health care, we, as a couple, have paid National Insurance for over 40 years, x2.
