Hi

Try your oximeter a couple of times.

Some start low and come up to stabilise.

Some start high and come down to stabilise.

What I do put is it on soon as it reads take of and replace again .and use that reading.

Constantly below 88% is a concern and requires further checks.

With a lung condition a normal would be 94% at rest.

Heart rate normally is between 60/120.

Fitness plays apart in heart rate.

I have only had readings taken in hospitals 3 or 4 times a month, it's always been 99% to a 100% only one time it was 98%...

I have asthma and copd ...so why is 94% about normal for lung conditions. Or do you mean average?

I have an apointment tomorrow for an ACG..that I expect to be o.k. but I like to ask my doctor about things that I don't know but interest me.

Andy.

Hi

94% would be considered normal for a adult with a lung condition, as we are all different, with different lung conditions also different climates their may we'll be variations.

If you look at the original post the question ask is 84% normal which of course is not.

I don't always put my finger in my oximeter correctly and get a low O2 reading but an accurate pulse reading. It's taken me a bit of practice to get it right.

I wouldn't worry if it drops to 84 then goes up, I would think that is normal, make sure you are relaxed when you take your reading and let it settle. I have known mine drop to 60 after exertion and then around 5 minutes later on oxygen go back to low 90s. The recommendation for me is between 88 - 92, too high can be as bad as too low. I am on 24/7 oxygen now so I am quoting my own figures as recommended by the hospital respiratory team. At rest my heart drops to the 60s and as far as I know that is ok. Hope my comments are of some help, take care.
