Hi Erika, your dad's in the best place possible. He will have constant care and will be monitored regularly. Although you don't give much detail about why he needed this treatment, he's obviously been through a dreadful time but the good ct scan result gives grounds for hope.

You will be best able to help support him if you can get a handle on your anxiety - easier said than done, I know. Take one day at a time, be kind to yourself and don't push yourself too much. Sending very best wishes for your dad's recovery.

Ps: if you need more information and advice you can call the BLF helpline, they have experienced and kind nurses who will go through it with you. 03000 030 555.

thank you so much for the reply, he was responsive and squeezed our hands and blinked on command, they stopped the vent, and he has been breathing on his own for a few hours now

Now your dad is breathing on his own, he's heading in the right direction. It's a big step to come off the ventilator. Make sure you get some rest too.

Phoning the helpline is good advice if you have worries that aren't being answered by your dad's medical team. I do hope his improvement continues. Jan

Yeah - I agree think the phoneline is your best for advice. You can't tell what's going to happen so try and take care of yourself so you can be strong. Hard I know - but some rest - and some kindness to yourself now. take care piggi x
