Good evening all, my dad came out of hospital a week ago and he's looking bad again. He's sleeping the best part of the day aswel as through the night. Whilst in hospital they said his potassium levels was low but when he was discharged they was ok so they didn't give him any to come home with.

The gp said hed try to send a nurse out tomorrow to take blood. If it's not one thing it's another :(

Bananas are a good, natural source of potassium.

Yea I know but he's also off his food I don't know how low it is and how many bananas he'd need to eat

I would think if you can get a little banana down him, that would help. Perhaps he would like banana custard. The secret is to only offer small amounts at a time.

Best Wishes Azure sky :)

I would not give him bananas they have a really high sugar content that only goes once the skin has turned brown. bananas also inhibit the PST enzyme which removes toxins from your body.

coffee has potassium and the caffeine is good for other things or even better is elderberry juice as he has just come out of hospital the juice kills the bugs you catch in the hospitals.

Interesting. It was a doctor who recommended bananas to me. I shall look at your alternatives.

Hi Melissa, I'm sorry to hear your dad is still so poorly. Is he still using a bipap at night?

I wouldn't worry about potassium levels as the doctors decided they were okay. I think it's more important to get him to eat anything at all to try and build up his strength. I'm sure you know what might tempt him. Perhaps others will have some tasty and healthy suggestions.

I do hope your dad's health picks up soon. Jan

Yes he still using the bicap during the night. He's showing signs of low potassium ie sleeping, swollen belly, muscle/nerve issues (his fingers twitch and tap. His feet rub his mattress while he sleeps). Also when I use the oximeter his heart rate varies from 88bpm to 110bpm. He's very lethargic we offered to take him out for lunch but he didn't want to go. His face can get quite red too. Fingers crossed the nurse will be able to come out tomorrow. X

calories will not help him only minerals and electrolytes,

once you stop putting calories in your body stem cells start to regenerate and go and fix any problems, think about how the body works when you are ill first it raises a fever next it stops you eating this is why vegetable broth is beneficial due to the minerals the body needs but you need to use pure water or distilled and do not heat above 50 Celsius.

When I am too ill to eat I make a banana smoothie. Just banana, milk and honey whizzed up in a blender.

Tastes yummy and easy to digest.

depending on how old you are the enzyme lactase that digests the sugars in milk stops working in your gut, once that has gone bad bacteria feed on the lactose and cause lots of problems also milk has really low picolinate which means that the majority of the nutrients in milk are not absorbed by your body. and then you have the issue of pasteurisation this kills all of the good bacteria in milk and honey making it pretty much worthless you should check your blood sugar levels afterwards and you will see what I mean. vegetable broth is the most valuable drink for your body by a mile.

Sounds lovely bevvy. Do you have to be ill to drink it :)

No nurse today, the call out has been arranged for tomorrow instead. I'm scared that it's more than copd or low potassium. He's got to go for an xray in 5 weeks are they checking to make sure the pneumonia has cleared up or is there something lying there (C).

Does anyone know the likelihood of someone with copd having lung cancer please x

Hi

If you are very concerned phone 111 and see what they say. Let them help you.

He needs electrolytes as well as minerals and the best form of these is within the water in vegetables or fruits this will help the body heal itself quicker than any other thing, all the while you put calories into your body it will not heal itself as this inhibits stem cell production.

anytime someone is Ill they should automatically go on this broth diet, older age brings depleted Villi hence depleted absorption so you need B2 B6 and magnesium to replenish this also beetroot replenishes hydrochloric acid.

put the right things in the body and it will heal itself

slippery elm bark is amazing at reducing inflammation of the GI Tract and works wonders on the lungs

and another wonder herb is silymarin from milk thistle this regenerates so many organs in your body especially your liver heart and lungs.

serrapeptase enzymes remove any fibrous tissue in the body (even asbestos) and repairs scarring
