Be Careful What You Wish For...

One step forward and another one back...

We only had to wait an hour, which isn't too awful I suppose, but an hour sitting on a hard chair made my back ache and I really wanted a cup of tea...

Can't come off the Seroxat immediately...has to be slowly and can't take anything for the anxiety until not taking Seroxat anymore...she was quite cross when I said I felt silly for having this horrible anxiety...told me that it's almost part and parcel of having COPD and she was surprised I hadn't mentioned it before...

She's going to write to GP about it and about changing inhalers and so on.

Then we came to the interesting part...

There's little logic in this but perhaps she was having a stressful afternoon...doesn't like the idea of a wheelchair 'because it would limit my exercise'...but she does think a motorised scooter would be excellent! You could go for miles on one of those she said...as I said...no logic.

The 'but' for the scooter comes in the shape of going through the local OT department...who is in charge? The Jesus freak. The bloke who told me I couldn't sleep on the settee...couldn't have a shower and needed to completely dismantle the back lobby and make it into an ensuite bathroom/bedroom...then accosted me over my Buddha statue and asked why I didn't love Jesus...that bloke.

The wheelchair doesn't much matter, because a basic chair isn't expensive and we'd already said we'd buy one just so I can get out in the fresh air without collapsing in a soggy heap before I was five yards from the front gate...

Off to the surgery tomorrow for our 'flu jabs...I'm going to see the Doctor as well...will mention whizzy scooters in case the Consultant asks me next time I see her...and I'll point out that if the Jesus man comes anywhere near me ever again I'll not be responsible...

The craft shop is heaving with fabric...bolt after bolt...so I just bought some Charm squares and thread. So much choice has me bewildered. The nice lady fixed my sewing machine there and then...a tiny hook of metal had slipped off and disappeared into the innards...she ferreted about with very long tweezers and put it back where it ought to have been...didn't charge me either.

Totally exhausted now of course.

The worry about a wheelchair is that it may be used constantly, not just out and about but also in the house, which is why they worry about insufficient exercise being taken. I wouldn't be without mine but it lives in the garage unless we are going out somewhere, and then we take it out.

I did tell her we live in a tiny cottage...it'd only be for going out...especially to go down our little road which I love but can't manage to walk anymore. Doesn't much matter...we'll probably buy one.

There seem to be decent second-hand ones about. I used one such until the local authority supplied me with one. Good luck.

Hi Vashti, I was prescribed Seroxat for anxiety but it made me so sick I couldn't go anywhere ....I didn't take it for long so there was no problem getting off it for me.

You will have to take it slowly.

Have you tried Rescue Remedy at all....it may just be a placebo, I don't know...could tide you over.

Pursed lip breathing helps too. My anxiety is worse first thing in the morning and wears off gradually on a good day.

Enjoy your new fabric...I have a fabric box making day course next week.

What a busy day you have had! I bought a lightweight foldable wheelchair after I came out of hospital 6 months ago. I needed it for my mobility rather than sob since I had been hospitalised for so long & leg muscles are weak.

My occ health nurse & physiotherapist weren't keen on giving me a wheelchair incase I used it all the time & got no exercise.

I discussed it with my GP & he agreed it would be a good idea if it meant I could go to places I couldn't actually walk to. It was that or be stuck indoors till my leg muscles improved.

They are a lot better now but I keep the wheelchair in the car & if we're away anywhere that I know is impossible for me, I use it.

So maybe something like that would suit you, just a thought.

Good luck with your flu jab! I get mine on Thursday. A necessary evil!

Take care & keep well 😀

Can see what she meant about the wheelchair and you could get further with a motorised scooter without assistance but have you got room to keep one? A wheelchair folds up.

Apart from the wheelchair "logic"..........see, you don't have to be a Jesus freak, there are still kind people out there who will help without reward. Hope you can now enjoy your sewing machine again during the long Winter months. XX

I am looking at a motorised chair as I have been told a self propelled would make my compression fractures in my back worse! Some of them can go fast and have a great range.

Get Well soon.

I think I can see what she meant about an ordinary wheel chair, as opposed to a 'whizzy scooter.' You would be in the sit down chair too much instead of roaming the countryside at will!

Wish I had met the 'Jesus Man!' How dare someone use a professional visit to preach!

It is good news in a way to know that we are ' normal' with the anxiety. I suppose my amitriptyline helps with this, but I don't want to up the dose right now, otherwise I may become more geriatric than I feel!

I saw my French Lung specialist yesterday, and got as clean a bill of health as I can get right now. At least he is happy, and he signed all the papers to put me on 24 hours a day oxygen. Certainly it makes me feel stronger...I recover more quickly too. Review in 6 months...
