I don't think it is insomnia I think more to do with pain...knees. .back...and more recently I hurt my right shoulder.

MRI scan shows I need surgery. ..and 10.000 US dollars to pay for it. I was going to have done...very hard to live with a saverd tendon.

Then comes copd so I thought I'd wait to see how long I was going to live for.

have you had trouble sleeping for a long while or was it after being diagnosed with copd

in reply to mmzetor

On and of Sleeping pills and painkillers for many years.

I could do without the sleeping pills but not the painkillers.

Am still very stressed so a good sleep helps.

I've needed an operation on my shoulder for 6 months but have put it of because diagnosis of copd 3 months ago.

Since I was diagnosed COPD 14 months ago I have not slept for more than four hours a night and that is in two stretches. Strange how I just cannot sleep, I get really desperate most nights. I have also gone off certain foods and the smell of them. Even mayonnaise, home made or shop bought, makes me nauseous, and I can only really enjoy chicken now as any other meat smells awful. I " accidently " tipped out one my husband's aftershaves into the wash basin because I couldn't bear it. Anyone else has these dislikes now? Polly

I also find some foods make me nauseous, with intermittent violent bouts of vomiting but this has occurred in last couple of years. I now take Omeprazole which helps.

GP puts it down to all different meds I take.....

You sound very much like me I even asked my girlfriend not to put on perfume in the bedroom as it seemed to take the oxygen out of room.

Taste and smells are so different now.

Eating food now is a task rather then a pleasure.

we cannot complain. But if my girlfriend puts her perfume

On in the bedroom again. ..I will be doing what you did to your husband after shave.

I understand where you are coming from about perfumes I have a teenage son who think you need to put half a can of deodorant on in the mornings he does it in his bedroom but you can smell it downstairs in the kitchen that makes me short of breath . I suppose I been lucky since I been diagnosed food always seem to taste same to me only thing that gets me is being short of breath ,,

My girlfriend just one year past teens..and she really does take my breath away ...This morning she put on her perfume when I come down to the kitchen and I could still smell it.

I'm not buying any more for her......

Does anyone else have this problem. I don't know what else to do. The doctor can't order anything else or stronger. Any advice anyone can give me?

Thanks

Please be careful with sleeping pills. I had a 2 year bout of very poor sleep but my GP would not give me sleeping pills.

1. Because they can be addictive

2. Because my breathing is already compromised due to COPD and sleeping tablets can interfere further.

Some anti depressants can make you sleepy and can assist with pain. Might be worth exploring further?
