Why is it that I can never find anything to read on Amazon or Bookbub...all those books on every subject under the sun and I struggle to find something which appeals...

Hopeless to place much store on the reviews...often the most scathing are about a book I've thoroughly enjoyed...the most glowing reserved for something I've thought total codswallop and struggled to finish.

And why is it that when one of the dogs throw their dinner up, it's always on one on the rag rugs and never on the actual floor...and how is it that canned dog food and biscuit that's been gobbled down by one dog and chucked up again, is so appealing to the other two dogs who practically knock each other over in their haste to eat the vomit.

Cats don't eat each other's sick...people don't either, not as far as I know anyway.

How is it that Himself has always professed to dislike cats, but now we have the kittens he talks to them in baby cat language and warms their dinner up in the microwave and says, Night-Night, see you in the morning, when he shuts them in the bathroom for the night...doesn't say that to me. Actually, I've noticed he kisses the kittens good night before he does me...

Perhaps I ought to begin wearing a fur coat.

Why in heavens name did Ireland think having the euro for coinage was such an excellent idea...I look at the Sterling price and think that's very reasonable...convert to Euro and think the seller is having a laugh at my expense.

Amazon have these quite nice shower stools...the seller doesn't deliver to Ireland and why not I ask...we're only sixty miles across the sea. So I look for a seller of the same shower stool in Ireland and it's twice the feckin' price!

Never mind...onward and upward.

Like it always rains on Bank Holiday Mondays...or bread lands butter side down?

in reply to knitter

I'm sure I read a scientific reason for the bread and the butter...not sure about the Bank Holidays though...lol

My late husband was eventually won over by our cats and kittens. I'm always amazed that anyone can resist them.

Perhaps your husband saves the best til last when handing out kisses! I like the idea of a fur coat tho'.

in reply to Magpuss

Ah....saving the best 'til last....that's lovely!

It's a sad bad mad world!😁 the thought of you sitting in a fur coat purring when himself is about has tickled my funny bone Vashti!😘 xxx

in reply to hufferpuffer

Don't think I would...not really...bet they harbour small creatures...fur coats I mean...lol

Vashti, you really crack me up. I think you should write a book. Just start writing whatever comes into your brain and I bet it will be a million dollar (pound) seller.

You're too late on that one Gerald, we've all been telling her that for years - in fact we've all got our orders in for the a first copy! If you go into Vashti's page, you can see some of the wonderful things that she's written....you'll love them, I'm sure. XX

The very next person to tell me I ought to write a book is going to have to pay a hefty fine!

Oh .But I'm soooo poor.

When will the kitties be allowed to sleep in the cottage? It must be cold in the bathroom. A cage by the range wpuld be nice for them. Kittens need to be kept warm.

in reply to Azure_Sky

I honestly don't know what to say...

Sorry Vashti, you said the kitties slept in the bathroom. I was just suggesting a possible alternative. Kittens need to be near you, and warm. Then they can call out to you, if they are hungry, thirsty or lonely.

Maybe I misunderstood, if so, I humbly apologise.

I have just re-read To Kill a Mocking bird. Forgot how throughly entertaining it was. Last read it way back around the time I did "A" Levels so a long while go - over 30 years! Decided to read it again before reading "Go Set a Watchman" Then that was put on Book at Bedtime on Radio 4 the week before last so had to turn my radio off at night - usually leave it on snooze, listen to book at bedtime and if I really like the book they are reading I fall asleep after 5 minutes if I don't I manage to stay awake and listen to it all! So later today will start Go Set a Watchman. Have two other books on the go too one by a local author and the "new - ish" Kazuo Ishiguro. That too was serialised on Book at Bedtime but because I enjoyed it I slept through most of it! I will read anything and persevere even if I don't really fancy the book and then it takes me ages to get through it! My Gran used to say I was afraid of missing something good the way I used to read everything around. Wow have I read some cwap!

You know think we often find men like the things they actually profess not to like. Like yours mine professed to "hate" cats but they always come up to him and sit on his lap and his youngest son's cat used to come and sleep on his side of the bed when we stayed there some time ago. I think it was because they both gave each other space they got on so well? Then of course the understanding between them seemed to grow into real love! ha ha. Think it was GBS who said we treat our enemies far better than we treat the ones we love so maybe there is a bit of that there too. Because my other half and Nona - the cat, respected each other they became better friends? Maybe it was actually a case of know your enemies and keep them close?

Wish I could say we were coming over to Ireland and would bring you a shower stool. We live close to Pembroke Dock and Fishguard and used to take a trip over for a few days quite often but haven't for a few years.

As you say onwards and upwards!

Take care

Sian

I can't read Ishiguro...tried but simply can't. Now I loved To Kill a Mockingbird...haven't tried Go Set A Watchman yet though...let you read it first!

We can't really get BBC 4 clearly here...not enough to listen to a Book at Bedtime, much to my regret...used to like the Afternoon Play as well.

Pembroke Dock at two in morning...lol

I have just read Clippie Girls by Margaret Dickinson. It is about Sheffield, trams, the Sheffield Blitz. It was very well researched and I found it hard to put down. Afterwards I found out the author had written 20 novels, so I have got another one for my Kindle.
