Wedding dress

You know how sometimes your mind wonders well I was just thinking what we did with our wedding dresses after hanging mine in the wardrobe for a few years I had a look at it and it had gone fusty so I put it out with the rubbish. !!!!!! have you still got yours?

No, but that is because it was 'something borrowed' - we were going to Nigeria for at least a year ten days after we married. My lovely cousin, Carole, who had married the year before lent me hers.

Yes, looking very tired now - don't know why I still have it really, hard to believe I was ever THAT slim, 23" waist! Funny how it's the other way around now(32") 😕

I cut the lace off mind and made a cloth to go over my bedside table. Now don't have a cloth on my bedside table and not sure what happened to it. I didn't want to keep it as a dress as it would have had to be packed in acids free tissue paper and carried around with us from quarter to quarter. My hubby was in the RAF. With moving never knew if at the next posting you would have enough suitable storage space for things you needed let alone a dress you would never wear again.

I gave mine away to a bride who was very poor and living in India. My brother was working

Than I had. Lol. Divorced after 13 yrs.

I kept mine all wrapped up but when my girls got to about ten they used to play at dressing up in it with the other children in the avenue. They took it in turns "getting married" to the only boy who would play with them!! Oh happy days, thank you Starveycat. Moll xx

Mine actually was borrowed from my sister, she had it back but left it in her home after walking out on her husband. Never saw it again which was a bit sad as my sister had made it herself. Very good at making things she is. I also borrowed the veil which was given back and that young lady divorced her husband. Perhaps I am a bit of a jinx but have been married nearly 42 years to Pete so not all bad.

I kept mine all wrapped carefully in acid free paper but when we moved to our retirement apartment I gave it to a lovely lady who did a boot fair every Sunday for the local Hospice. It was sold to as a retro wedding dress for £250. I bought it for less than that second hand 37yrs earlier. The money from the sale went to the Hospice. Not bad hey.

I cut the bottom half up and made it into a christening gown for my 3 babies. I have kept the bodice as a reminder of yes, I really was that slim before they came along!

Heavens - I suppose it's still in the loft, nearly 60 years

old! Must get someone to dig it out and see what it's like, that's if the mice haven't eaten it!

I tried to sell mine! No offers so wrapped up in tissue paper. My daughter spent many happy hours dressing up in it with her friends some years later. However I still have my mothers silk wedding dress. I was never thin enough to wear it!!! It's nearly 80 years old and is kept folded up in tissue paper inside a plastic bag. No problems with deterioration. Have a good day barnowl

Have mine. Size 8 from the 1970's. Packed away in a case. Acres of netting and silk. Yes, I'd the long train too.

Of my girls, each have worn their dresses more than just for the wedding. Looking st mine in comparison, it was just that. A 1970's wedding dress. Nowadays, they are more wearable without acres of tulle.
