No Gerald, Im still not clear on the usage or the benefits. I did buy a salt lamp but my home looks like a red light district from a distance so I never put it on now.

Oh ok Jude. Just wondering if it has any value. Thank-you. Gerald. xx

Hi

Type salt pipe into search box on green bar, then press enter on keyboard, there are several answers.

I have saline solution for my neb which is used to help get rid of mucus ( I very rarely need to use it, thank goodness ) Therefore I can only assume a salt pipe would do the same thing.

I bought one some time ago, as did some members of my COPD Group. I'm afraid I did my usual trick of being very enthusiastic to start with then kept forgetting to use it.

A couple of group members persevered and find it very helpful.

If I remember rightly I bought it from thesaltpipe.co.uk/products.php

Cisca Saltpipe (Salipipe)£26.99

Hope this helps.

I'm thinking about it too Jilly, can't make things worse lol....So by the time I've taken my preventer inhalers 3 times a day, my blue one if required, my nasal rinse twice a day, my beconase twice a day, my 4 bp tablets and my anti-histamine, my exercise regime ;), I'll fit it in somewhere.....seriously though, they do seem to work according to the reviews & I'm sure I'll get one...whether I manage to keep it up that's a different matter

Thanks, I also have high blood pressure and wondered about the salt as it is not good for hypertension, but reading the notes on it says it is safe for people with high blood pressure xx

Hi Megan, do you still need to use your inhaler, etc or has this replaced them. How have you been taking it that has worked for you? What medicine were you originally on before you started talking the saltpipe, compared to now? Thanks v.m

I have mild copd and have used the salt pipe (higher nature) reguarly for 20to25 mins every day and used properly can really help with wheezing and any irritating cough. This pipe you can also use along with your current inhaler if need be. The best time to inhale on the pipe is early morning or in the evening and you will feel benefits after about two to three weeks used reguarly. Never breathe back into the pipe it will affect the crystals inside. There is no side affects with this natural breathing aid...Buy it from your local health shop ..not online. TRY IT..Maddimegan 31. 😺😺

Hi Jilly, my wife has COPD and Asthma and has used a Salt Pipe for about 3 years now. She says that she can feel the benefits, when used on a regular basis. Seems to help keep the mucus moving, which improves her breathing. As its only contains salt, it doesn't react with any other mess. As Puff the magic dragon says, it's similar to having saline in a NEB. She buys hers from Holland and Barrett.

Thankyou for all your helpful comments it seems that it could possibly help with the breathlessness I have also been referred now to a PR I have to wait for hospital appointment now will keep all informed, I was quite upset yesterday i have had the condition since 2007 and thought I was doing well by the end of all the breathing tests was informed my lungs were like a 90 years old (I am 67). Well my lung age on my last spirometry test was 111 and I am 71. Don't worry too much about this figure (I think it was put in in the first place to scare people into giving up smokig if they still smoked). I am classified as Moderate and do go to the gym twice a week which is a life saver. To be truthful, if I compare myself to most of the people I know of my age (and younger) I am not doing bad at all so say Pooh to the figures and the important thing is how you actually are and feel.

Thankyou HampshireLass I go to gymophobics 3 times a week which is light exercise of 30 minutes it is the first time in 8 years since i was diagnosed with COPD that I have had one of these tests and I dont think I managed the fast breathing out very well. I have ordered one of these salt pipes after seeing some of the reviews it can only help your still going at 111 xxx

Hi, l have just bought a salt pipe and it should arrive Monday or Tuesday, l will use it for a few days/ week and get back to you l cannot move mucus which makes me cough more than l should. Read testimonials but obviously most were positive about the results. I want to try anything to help me breathe better. And it seems that it shouldn't be a problem with other medications because it is only salt. Can't wait to try it now.

My consultant advised against a salt pipe as being too severe and crude a way of dealing with my Emphysema and COPD and can affect the lining of the lungs??

Hi Jilly. I have been using a salt pipe for a few years now. It's easy to use and I use it for allergies and asthma. I am 49 and have had asthma all my life since 18 months old. About a year ago I stopped using the pipe - basically just got out the habit of carrying it around - and kind of forgot about it. Then earlier this year I got a very bad chest infection - antibiotics and inhalers did not help much - then started using the salt pipe again and it helped loads. It's no big deal to use. I just use it anytime I have a couple of minutes or even when I feel wheezy I take a few puffs then. I also clean the nozzle well and use it near my nose for allergies and a blocked up feeling. It has helped that greatly too I must admit. Mine is a Hymalian salt mine pipe and I have had it fro a few years and there is still heaps of salt in it. One concern would be to buy from a trusted company as it would be terrible to think that the salt pipe is filled with regular refined table salt!

Jilly, I write this post to you in full knowledge you asked the question a couple of years back. However if you are at all like me and procrastinate at all then maybe my reply might still be valid. Further, I think others like myself might be researching salt pipes now and again in 2017 and like me may cone across this forum thread for help or guidance, hence also writing my reply.

To summarise , I have found the salt pipe very helpful for both asthma and allergies. I have had a slight concern that it could increase blood pressure but I was assured it can't. However I will be researching that out a bit more hens signing up to this forum.

Overall though, a salt pipe is extremely helpful to help with breathing and allergies and helps me feel better generally.

Kindest regards to you Jilly, Scott

Scott747 you are so right!! Newbies might be researching the Hungarian cisca pipe like me! I started out researching flutter type devices as I am sick of constantly clearing my throat (and largely failing to!) and my search led me to the pipe. Rather than take any risks I thought I would check out the experience on this site. So thank you and thank you to all the other contributors to the thread too :)

Whatever you do, do NOT buy a pipe from Sims Saltpipes. I had safety concerns about a pipe I ordered from them. The pipe was low quality, with clay chipping off on the inside of the pipe, so bits of it would be breathed in if used. So far for credible certification. Contacted them. They agreed to issue a refund if I sent back the pipe. I sent it back, paid for postage myself. They acknowledged receipt of the pipe, said the refund would follow shortly. The money never came. I contacted them numerous times. They either did not reply or (when pressed on the phone) said now was not a good time, that they had financial difficulties, that the refund would follow. The refund never came. They are liars and thieves and do not genuinely care about our health. Do no trust them; all they are in for is a quick buck, taking advantage of those in need of help.

Hi, my first comments so please be gentle. I was bought a Himalayan salt pipe at Chrismas (2018) I have PF in UIP pattern, not sure what the UIP bit is though, will ask at next app., The feeling was that it may help. I used exactly as directed, and after inhaling about 5/6 times I had to stop, I felt as if my chest was closing up. An hour later it still felt tight and quite scary.

I then had to resort to using the relief inhaler, which I am loath to use. About half hour later my chest now feels, well, not too bad. I Might risk trying it again, but I get a feeling result may be the same. 72 years old guy with idiopathic PF UIP , cheers to all of you, Don
