Hi everyone wondering if any of you are on the fostair inhaler and could give me some information about it. I still have not had a full diagnosis of my condition my gp thinks its asthma/copd and emphasymia ( not sure ive spelt that right ) so any information would be very helpful thank you all in advance

Hello Lisachamp, I have emphysema and bronchiectasis. I did use fostair for a short time. It did its job for my lungs but I found it left a gritty feeling on my tongue. My cons. was very obliging and changed me to another inhaler which did not cause this problem. Hope this is of some help to you, barnowl

Thank you im just abit concerned as not used it before and my chemist said some one would ring me in a week to see how im getting on with it

Try not to worry, if the chemist is going to ring you Will be in good hands and if in the meantime you notice any differentbsymtons you could call the chemist or your g.p. Best wishes barnowl

I was put on Fostair 600 because I had a slow inspiritrty flow ,use it through a acuhalor,the best one I've had yet ,works well n almost immediate if you want to use as a preventer too, I am severe emphsema so have tried a few, no side effects from this one either ,wash yer mouth out after,I find the acuhalor gets any residue.

I am trialing this at the moment and have started a thread on it so I will let you know how it goes .... so far so good and it is really gentle on the mouth ... ive had asthma for many years and got diagnosed with copd around 10 years ago so ive tried out a lot things but this has seen the most instant improvement of them all so far ... only been on it a few days so time will tell. As Colours said above you can also use it as a reliever if needed so it kills two birds with one stone so to speak.

Thank you i have been told to use my ventolin inhaler as a reliever at the moment.

Hi Lisa, my GP thought I had COPD/emphysemia but after months of breathing problems and not responding well to various inhalers. I was referred to a hospital Consultant who diagnosed Asthma and prescribed Fostair, I am thrilled with the improvement! Hope you get a proper diognosis soon and the Fostair helps. Xris

Fostair is one of 2 relatively new preventer combi-inhalers being prescribed instead of the long-standing gold standard drug Seretide which is approx. twice as expensive, and subject to some recent scare stories about its long term use making patients more prone to pneumonia. Only rarely is Seretide now prescribed to newly diagnosed sufferers., and existing patients are being encouraged to transfer to either Fostair or Symbicort.

For technical buffs, the relevant corticosteroid/long acting beta.2 agonist components are:-

Seretide - Fluticasone/Salmeterol

Fostair - Beclometasone/Formeterol

Symbicort - Budesomide/Formeterol

I was given Symbicort initially on trial but could not get on with it as it is a powder inhaler and requires some puff from the patient to breathe it in.

Fostair was then prescribed in aerosol form and I've now been on it for about 3 months and felt as good as I've been in recent years, and after recovering from pneumonia in April I've been infection free. This could of course be coincidental, or down to the time of year, but to date I would be happy to recommend it.

Thank you for the useful information warwickstag i was on symbicort but did nothing to help me in fact m cough got worse and had a lot of mucus too so my doctor gave me the fostair have been on it for two days now havent cough as much today and have been told to keep it in the fridge by the pharmasist and they are ringing me next week to see how its all going so thank you so much for the information it has helped alot

Lisa, I was advised only to keep unused Fostair inhalers in the 'fridge. Once you start using the inhaler they can be stored like any other inhaler. You might want to check the instructions that came with the prescription. Xris

Hi Xris it says keep below 25 but pharmasist told me to keep it on fridge so goin to ring them tomorrow and double check. Lisa

I will be interested to hear what the pharmacist says; although as I/we need to take the inhalers with us wherever we go it would be difficult to keep it in a 'fridge. Xris
