Don't Read If You Are A Comatose Slug...

Now I want/need a map of the world...and proper information about why the British Army sent soldiers to Bermuda in the 1800's without blinding me with science and a long boring explanation of unnecessary stuff...and I'd quite like a blank wall to put my own exceedingly extended tree on...but that'd mean a crash course in decent handwriting...I can't even print neatly, never mind attempt proper joined up writing...and I have to make a serious attempt not to spit and swear when someone happily announces their 10 times grandmother born in 1300 in Nottingham died in Delaware...or simply go straight into a feckin' fest, when a person whose maths are worse than mine, puts twelve children born twenty years after their mothers death...and not to completely explode when Ancestry says it can't show me a record 'because there is a problem' when they're fast enough on their feet to remind me...in a slippery, friendly sort of a fashion...that my months subs need renewing. And I really ought not throw my Teddy across the room in disgust when people with the intelligence of a comatose slug don't have the wit to look something up for themselves, rather than wringing their hands in despair as tears roll down their cheeks because they don't know what a feckin' Cooper did for a living. I shout at my little screen...look it up you eejit and the dogs run for cover...paws clamped over their ears...Bobby straight under the bed...Eilis into the kitchen and Millie gazes at me reproachfully from the dog bed then heaves a sigh and goes back to sleep. Murphy bats the cursor and sprinkles the screen with exclamation marks...there was a time, long ago, when I had the patience of St Job...nothing much fazed me...not G spouting train timetables or T telling whopping fibs...not even when a teenage son announced his girlfriend was pregnant...I made a cup of tea and thought about knitting small garments. I had huge amounts of patience with the mother of the baby we fostered, even though she was a dozy bat and almost drove me to drink...the lodger who would only eat tinned spaghetti hoops on white toasted bread...night after night after night...I even had patience with my first husband who'd appear with a teenage runaway he'd found in the city or a pitiful old man stinking of pee he'd brought home for a bath and a hot dinner...but that was then and this is now and my patience has reached it's limit...

It may be a very long rant - but it's beautifully(?) written. You should write a book - seriously!

Oh Vashti, I'm sure it's me talking when I read your posts? You're so much like me - especially when It comes to the Ancestry site. I've had sooooo many arguments with them about their index people.. The Americans do not understand counties, and when I'm trying to find a certain person with a fairly common name who came from a certain county, I do not want to have to plough my way through reams of records that say eg., Winchester. Kent, Hampshire, Sussex, Surrey. What's wrong with them, surely common sense tells them that the b***** town can only be in 1 county?? I know they have towns with the same name dotted around their country, but they should be trained properly to do this kind of work and look things up when they don't know things. I've lost count of how many times that I've tried to explain that eg., Kent and Lincolnshire are hundreds of miles apart and therefore have no connection to what I'm searching .......Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! For your opening statement, you may like a site called - Swings, riots and rioters.com. It's about British convicts - again- and those sent to keep order over them. Lots of info with names and interesting etc., XX :-D
