Hi mmzetor, This is an excellent article, but, I suspect many GPs in UK might disagree.

I am lucky to have a GP and consultant both 'au fait' with the patches. The control is done at pharmacy level, and I have to return the used boxes to them for checking.

I have been on the patches for 7 years now, and do not feel that I am addicted in any way. Mind you, a couple of times I have forgotten to put on my patch on the correct day, and the horrible symptoms I get remind me!

Hi

I know oramorph is used by some people as it helps ease breathing x

Hi

I use Oramorph, 1.25m four times a day.

You only take a small dose which eliminates the side effects normally associated with morphine.

Yes, it's in the liquid form of Oromorph - as the others say. I believe it helps with severe coughing too. It's under controlled drugs, only given on prescription. Supposed to be kept locked away for safety.

Wishing you all the best with your condition. P

Hi Peege, It is so good to read that others are having Morphine. I have avoided mentioning it much in case people thought that there are a bunch of addicts here in France.

Morning, haha. I think the French GPs are more proactive with the care & treatment over there. If my memory serves me the oramorph is such a low dose, just enough to help. If patients swig back whole bottles I suppose alarm bells would ring.

Hope you're okay and weather is being good to you. X

Morning to you too! Thank Goodness the 'Canicule' Heat Wave has ended here! It is still hot but we can breathe better now!

My first intro to Morphine was the patches, and I think they are great, so I do not know Oramorph. I will Google it!

I use the Oramorph but not regular, it is only for when I am having a bad time and go into panic mode. It helps.

Hi,

sorry to read your COPD is so severe, and I too have heard that Oromorph can help folk feel more comfortable. I guess if your Doc is mentioning it you could always give it a try?

Wishing you comfort and relief from your symptoms.

Hello Mike,I have very severe emphysema. My consultant put me on Oramorph, liquid morphine, three months ago.I take 2mls every 2/3 hours up to five times a day.It keeps me calm ,the main feature ,it helps me sleep.I,ve had to take a lot of steroids over the last year and sleep was a real problem but now it,s fine.My Fev1 is 20%.Ask your consultant rather than just your GP,best of luck.D.

I ve always thought this must be a godsend for those in pain.

I gather it represses the perception of the shortness of breath yet it in actual fact can repress the respiration Itself.

I can t help wondering if its a pleasant sensation and frankly hope it is given the general misery😊 of the condition.

Mike, Like you, I have severe COPD...25%.

I have a low dose Morphine patch, changed every three days. (25 microgrammes) I also have 5mg of prednisolone every day, and 12 drops of amitriptyline daily. An Onbrez inhaler in the morning, a motilium tablet before meals, geltim eye drops for glaucoma, and I have 24/7 oxygen. Other over the counter things help with all my aches and pains.

My consultant here in France says it is all a balance....Morphine can suppress breathing, but, in some cases it eases it.

I bumble around taking all of this, and most days are good ones. My main aim is to avoid exacerbations, as it takes me a while to get back to my routine again.

I would give morphine a chance Mike, it might help you. Good Luck! Lolly. x

Farmer D, my husband would love it to keep me calm, but it doesn't!

Hopeup, I did not notice any 'rush' with any of the patches I use, but, when I forget one, it's a great feeling to feel 'normal' again.

Toci, I would use it under supervision.

Everyone, I do not want to sound like the guru on morphine, it is just that I have had 7 years of help from it (and many other drugs.)
