Well this is the first day of starting my symbicort inhaler after my two weeks of using a peak flow meter, my first experience of symbicort is a dry mouth and a severe coughing fit with bawking lets hope things improve very soon lol.

Hi Lisa

I'm on symbicort 200 twice am and twice pm.

Tell me about the dry mouth - it really is a nuisance but the inhaler works for me so I suppose a small price to pay.

I have a bottle of water by the bed and sip on it during the night.

It kicks in pretty soon so I hope you have some great improvement from taking it.

Take care

Hi, yes I agree with you saying you get a dry mouth. It does warn of this in the leaflet. It's advice is to take a drink of water after using the inhaler & it does work. Give it a go!

I use symbicort 200 but I take one dose four times a day instead of two doses twice a day. P Rehab nurse told me it suits a lot of people that way. Take care. x

Symbicort gave me thrush as well as a dry moth. It is VERY important to gargle thoroughly and rinse your mouth out after using Symbicort.

Good Morning, Hope it does get better for you. My husband has used it twice a day for about five years and he finds it the most effective inhaler. But if you dont find it helpful go back to your doctor - there are lots of inhalers available. Good luck, lots of love TAD xx

I have to see my doctor again in eight weeks as apparently takes about that long for the symbicort to fully work so heres hoping i start to see an improvement even a little one would be good lol over the next two months

I switched to it recently; two doses twice a day. I always glug water or juice & swish it around my mouth after each dose.

Beer does the trick as well :-)

I have noticed...or more accurately my wife has noticed...that I tend to occasionally get some oral thrush & bad breath from it but I think a lot of inhalers do that anyway. A good mouthwash usually helps.

I'm on various meds at the moment so don't know what affects what but I've been seeing a slow but steady peak flow improvement since I went onto it so have a generally positive view.

Id try the beer but i dont drink lol my peak flow is about the same mainly between 300 and 350 havent had the thrush yet so dont envy you with that but im sure my time for it will come haha. And i try to be positive but its abit hard sometimes as i havent had a proper diagnosis yet consultant thinks but hes not 100% sure that its asthma but alot of people including my doctor think its copd so im still none the wiser so just plod along till i see my doctor again in seven weeks sorry for the whinge but thank you for listening

Don't worry about having a winge. If it was an Olympic sport I'd have my own golden letterbox.

Have you been given an additional reliever? Ventolin/salbutamol or anything like that? You can get pointers as to whether or not it's asthma by seeing if a couple of puffs on a reliever makes any difference to your peak flow. Mine always did until the onset of a load of further problems (I've had asthma since I was 3; coming up for half a century of wheezing now!!).

Your doctor will advise but as far as I know that's a clue anyway that it's asthma.

It can take a while sometimes to get the answers you need. And don't rule out beer. It has solved many of my problems in life. Briefly anyway.

My gp put me on ventolin when she referred me to see the specialist but it made no difference told the specialist this but he wasnt really interested in anything me or my husband had to say and i mainly only wheeze on a night if im laid on my left side its more the breathlessness and coughing that are the problem im out of breathe all the time even sat down doing nothing i find it hard to breathe

I think I have tried most of the inhalers and Advair has been the best with no side effects. Symbicort is newer and made me feel slightly sick. I only take the 250/50 twice a day. My emphysema is as bad as it can get.
