Hi all anyone have any tips for us all that you find helps you breath easier?

Mine is: I wash my face then dry all but my nostrils & mouth area, I find the moist air helps me to breath easier. Especially on the occasions when I find myself going into panic mode because I can't breath.

I look forward to reading your tips. X

A handheld fan on the face really helps.

My 3 year old granddaughter had an asthma attack with the traffic fumes in central London (in the pushchair, face level with filthy diesel fumes).

I used a newspaper to fan her & it really works. There are nerve endings in your face which connect to your lung area.

For myself I just do pursed lip breathing (& never panic)!

that is something that always worries me - modern prams where the baby/child are so low down. I know they fold up for cars, but I loved the old high sprung carriage built prams of the sixties!

I rely on the old fishermans friends or peppermints to clear my nose. iris x

A good tip for asthmatics suffering an attack is to dampen a breathable material with water and hold it over the mouth and nose. Another good one is to get them to breathe into a paper bag.

In a pinch though that was good thinking peege. x

Best bet: Are you eligible to have PR exercises? You need to talk to your practice nurse. PR = pulmonary rehabiliation.

I had this when I lived in Evesham a couple of years ago, but not been offered again since living here. I found this course helpful with the talks we had & I found out a lot about my conditions.

Thanks

I take couple of spoonfuls of honey and a dash of lemon juice every morning to ward off colds or flu, and if i feel a bit breathless i add a smidgeon of ginger, top it up with hot water from kettle, (just half a cup) and drink, it has seen me through past few years.

Thank you I will certainly try this tip.

Watch out at Poundland. This little device is amazing. If I see them being sold again I'll let you know.

Breathing control brings my breath back to normal. I used to use a ventolin inhaler a week before I learnt how to use breathing control effectively. Ventolin is addictive.....your body starts lying to you because it craves ventolin, so broke that little habit.

Now also, as peege says, a small battery operated fan. There was a link on here a few weeks ago to Cambridge Hospital about the use of the fans. It has to have at least three blades to be really effective and held 6 to 8 inches from the face and just gently moved around the lower face area, not directly up you snot box. Breathing control comes into it now. It is now even more important to breath in through your nose as the moving air from the fan enters the body and cools the part of the brain that controls breathing. It works like magic. An unusual event in my life this week....I went out in the evening for a fund raising meal at a local Indian restaurant. Walked in and the room was already warmer than outside and the air was still.....but worse than that, it seemed that everyone there had washed themselves in the entire Boots cosmetics counter products. If you had lit a match, I'm sure the place would have exploded but the only thing that did explode, was my breathing. So, out came the fan and within seconds, I had cool, clear air going up my nostrils an into my lungs, via that magic little part of my brain. Had a fantastic evening and a fantastic meal. Best of all, from the 30 people that were there, we raised nearly £350 for the Nepal earthquake victims.

LONG LIVE THE FAN.
