Can anyone help.

I have COPD and Lung Cancer and a friend told me there was a new treatment for COPD which is better than Spiriva (Tiotropium). I wondered if anyone had heard of it? Hope I've posted this on the right wall, apologies if I haven't.

hi I don't know about a new treatment, you would normally have a combination of inhalers. what other ones do you use. im on Spiriva, seretide 500 and salbutamol.

Yes I'm on those too. My friend said that this new inhaler combined all of those and it was supposed to be more effective. Thanks though.

I don't know if it's better than Spiriva - but may be better for some people who may get side effects with Spiriva.

Its not FOSTAIR is it ? retailing at around £32 per inhaler.has two combinations in it.

I'm on Fostair ,blimey did not know how much it cost!!why are they so expensive???i think mines only got one.

I don't think the price on it (€32 on mine which is £23 at the mo) is what the NHS pay, more likey a retail price on the continent... where LLoyds or the Co-op Pharmacy buyer has bought them from, but not at 'retail'.

Fostair 600/ it is a combination,the reason I like it so much is. It can also double up as a reliever,although I have a small blue salamol too ,no side effects like I used to get calf muscles contracting ooooh painful,to aggressive,I use it through a acuhalor,so it reaches to my lungs not my toncils.

Im finding there Seebri is brilliant for helping me walk around with less breathlessness. I got put on it after being on various nebulisers when i had pneumonia not long ago, Im also on Symbicort.

But Im beginning to get same side effect that made me give up on Spiriva, which is a mouth so dry i can't speak, very irritating.

Hiya I had the same problem for a while and my dentist told me to go to Boots the chemist where you can get mouth wash which is great for people with dry mouth. Also my dentist sold it. Sorry I can't remember the names but I'm sure chemist will be able to help.

I had sinusitis and phanyngitis - may have been Spiriva sides- got Seebri to try when the throat & nose get back to normal - coping with hot saline gargles 2 or 3 times a day, nasal rinses, steaming inhalation, nasonex & ventolin....

I use Tiotropium spiriva respimat it sprays fine straight into the lungs, when studying yesterday I came across the new one Stiolta respimat . So Tiotropium and olodaterol. Mixed together. Called Striverdi Respimat . From the Donald Mahler.com. Don't know how easy it is to get new meds, for my future thinking of maybe private, as it is so inportant to me to keep up ,but docs are not good at that, think COST!!! So we have to be on the ball to advise what's new,although you may get a cold response from doc. But keep the pressure on,the nurse told me why some are like that" they do not have our lives" how true. Keep well.

Heard at my PR class that seretide can cause infections with some people , but can't remember the alternative inhaler which was recommended. Anyone help there please .

Symbicort usual if seretide doesn't suit.

I`m on Bricanyl, Seretide and now also the alternative to Spiriva which I`d had for years Where I used to take Spiriva just once a day in the morning , the new one Eklira Genuair (Actidinium Bromide ) is taken twice a day am and pm. It`s very easy to take though lots of people complain about the gritty sensation left in the mouth. To me that`s a bonus `cos it reminds me to gargle and rinse plus I know I`ve taken it. So often I wasn`t sure with Spiriva whether or not the capsule was empty. Best of luck to you and yes cancer DOES stink ! Sheila x

Hi! Spiriva was no good for me- I have COPD, rheumatoid arthritis and coronary heart disease and my consultant prescribed Anoro which is much better. Hope this helps and I send you love and peace. x

I am on FOSTAIR Nexthaler and EkliraGenuair which are great - unlike Spiriva which I was never sure if I had actually had a dose or not these new ones both clearly indicate when you have and I believe the medicines or combinations of such are more modern and better - ask your gp about them good luck xx

So much waste of money with inhalors as most of us never get the med,it lands on your tonsils and mouth not lungs, if you have a slow respiratory flow,which does NOT reach down into the lungs,but it needed a specialist to realize this!!! There is along way to go to keep up with other country's .when the older nurses retired the budget had been cut so much there was no nurses to train and take over from them,that's why we are in so much of a bloody mess the NHS is in a worst state it's ever been!!!!
