Are you able to take azithromycin long term meds? My consultant gave them to me after multiple chest infections. That was about 18 months ago. x

Hi pergola

After 14 months of infection and double doses Doxyclycline my consultant has just started me on a course of Azithromycin. Has it worked for you? Did your chest infections clear up eventually?

regards.

For me, the azithromycin has worked well "Touch wood". People around me have noticed that my breathing is much quieter. No productive cough. Long may it last. xx

The only thing I can suggest is arnica ointment which helps to clear up the bruises quickly. Hope you feel much better quickly. Lots of love TAD

hi kookie I was same for over 6 months had constant infections and was on ab and steroids. then my gp told me consultant didn't want me get any more steroids as he was thinking of long term ab. he started me on azithromycin in april, I take 1 on a mon, wed and fri. and I feel they have made a difference. never going get away from getting breathless, but atleast if we can get it a bit easier. as before I lost a lot of time at work but since starting azithromycin I have lost any time at work so just keeping my fingers crossed stays that way.

I find if I don't jump at the chance of taking steroids I feel different next day , no good taking anti bs as they don't work it's a virus not infection?????. Comes and goes as it pleases ,always there, BUT I can't walk any distance anyway ,also they say my oxy is not low enough for oxy,so I'm left in limbo.....so I will have to take the Devils smarties. If I want to go out ,just local to waitrose. I have no choice !!!!!if I stay in I don't need half as much meds,I double inhalors do neb ,drop a few steroid as I can not go out.

Same here....the viral infection never goes, for two years I took no meds only inhalors as I could not get out so I put up with it,yes I've had a ct scan and I have emphsema severely damaged lungs through smoking....and many other things like enviromental pollution toxins n poisonous fumes chemicals which fill society.. Should be illegal !!!

It's a moisture lotion, cream and shower gel, I use the shower gel (just a drop) to wash my face. It's by far the best thing I've used. Chris x

I used to have that problem as well Kookie, but I now refuse to take steroids and my skin is back to normal thickness - plus lots of scars! Apart from the bleeding all over the place with the simplest knock, I never really noticed much difference when taking the awful things in the first place, so I haven't missed them.

With all the thousands of drugs there are today, there must be something else that works to the same end? I think most GP's have a limited knowledge of what's available and just issue the ones that they've always known about. When I go to my Dr., And ask about some new drug/treatment that I've read about, he always has to go onto the computer to find out about it. I think there's more help out there than we're aware of, it's just trying to find it!

I agree with nickers, Internet of course and other people with the same condition We can keep up,docs don't like to be told things, lol, I think we really have to dig out some pulmonary nurses , a lot are so basic ,don't give proper answers so you know that they've just began studying ,they have no time to listen to you, not many older ones who are experienced ,I think they need to study the differences between each condition that comes under Copd .as if I talk about Emphesema they look at me as they do not know what I'm talking about. Bloody annoyingly!!!!!
