Forty five or fifty years ago, like many of my generation, I played around with not only weed but other "recreational drugs" as well; I eventually gave it all up except for drink and ciggies which I continued with and which continued on their evil path of physical destruction.

As it turns out, many diseases these days are being treated with cannabis in various forms to good effect and I'm all for it. Until this link, I hadn't heard of its use with COPD. I may check it out.

By the way, anyone who's done any serious research on the origination of the prohibition of grass/weed knows the truth about it and knows it's bogus. Once again, it can be proven that the original laws were passed to protect certain political/industrial interests. All one has to do is take the time to do the research which these days with the internet is easy peazy....

Spot on. I have researched the effects of cannabis oil ( rick Simpson method ) on tumours and its quite amazing.

I do feel cheated but will be trying to source oil that is made in this way.

If COPD can be treated this way then im going to try it before my condition worsens. I am only at an early stage.

If anybody would like to share information please feel free.

It's time to stop swopping inhalers and help each other to treat this disease without pumping poisons into us

Do you think the inhalers arr bad for us

any evidence ?

chronicmick in reply to Seaelf

Hiya.

The inhalers bring relief to millions of us on a daily basis.

I am just suggesting that we source out natural alternatives that many people are suggesting.

The evidence of ANY medicine being bad for us is on the leaflet under " Side Effects "

As with all medicines...etc etc".

It's blind faith when our doctors pettle us big pharmas wears and we are always going to be guinea pigs for their products.

I will happily accept in the short term but hopefully i can find something natural to help in the long term.

Especially to prevent flare ups

I was thinking of more than the "side effects" , admittedly we occaisionally see "death " but normally we put up with or switch ; i mean evidence that the inhaler products are downright wrong or cause toxicity or actually worsen the lungs . We don t see such info coming from the companies (!) and rarely from users but also it is because inhalers generally do have" a benficial effect . the steroids we use clearly have a heavier negative effect and it is known .

compared to steroids I don t believe Spiriva and serevent ,and others , are actually bad but would like to see anything suggesting they are . Its more , yes, as you said find alternatives so ..

As this thread is chiefly about the alternative of canabis oil i ll just say that it is one of several things where there are stories of people

coming back from being in a very poor state so any one looking for alternatives needs to research.

Stuff like vit D , NAC , quercetin , saltpipes , powerbreathers have benefit but none of them lay claim to curing the problem .

I'll go along with Hippocrates.....

Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.😁

Good post, wish it was legal in this country 😁

Though I never dabbled in smoking marijuana nor did I dablle with other illegal drugs in my youth I will certainly use cannabis oil if I'm able to source it. Of course it is banned in Australia but it's amazing what a little research will reveal. The is definitely a source of information. However I do wonder at the information provided in some of the links promoting the use of cannabis, e.g the person with stage 3 COPD unable to shave without using his oxygen. I don't think so, not at stage 3.

I have no doubt about the healing properties of this oil but if if can prevent irritation in the lungs and airways then I'll try it if i can get it.

It certainly isnt going to do any harm.

The difficulty is getting hold of any thats made in this specific way

Hi I have heard of this before especially for use in asthma. I must admit I would be much more impressed if it didn't advocate a complete cure! x

Hi coughalot.

Yeah i agree but whilst they keep it illegal then it'll be difficult to find out. So frustrating.

I briefly read this article, and lost some faith in the writer when he put bronchiectasis under the copd umbrella. This is not the case. I haven't followed any reports about cannabis so can't comment. iris x

Excellent article

Go to the bottom of that page and read the various comments.

Interesting stuff....

I have an open mind - but the 'can't do any harm' comment is not well founded/accurate. I personally know three people whose psychosis is attributed to be caused (or whose pre-dispsosition was triggered, or was exacerbated) by cannabis use.

Of course that could be all part of the medical profession 'peddling the conspiracy...'

For balance betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhc...

"Cannabis and psychosis:

Research suggests that cannabis use can make a person’s existing psychotic symptoms worse. It may even bring on psychotic symptoms in people who are predisposed to psychosis if they have a personal or family history of psychosis.

Cannabis use can cause a condition known as drug-induced psychosis. Symptoms usually appear quickly and last a few days until the effects of the cannabis wear off. Disorientation, memory problems and hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not really there) are the most common symptoms.

Cannabis and psychotic illness

The effects of cannabis begin within minutes and can last several hours. However, for people with a psychotic illness (such as schizophrenia), the effects can be longer lasting and more intense.

Cannabis and first episode of psychosis

If someone has a predisposition to a psychotic illness such as schizophrenia, use of drugs such as cannabis may trigger the first episode in what can be a lifelong, disabling condition. There is increasing evidence that regular cannabis use precedes and causes higher rates of psychotic illness.

Psychotic illnesses are characterised by: delusions – for example, the person believes they have special powers

hallucinations – for example, the person hears voices or sees things that aren’t really there

thought disorder – for example, the person has difficulty organising their thoughts.

When people experience psychotic symptoms, they are unable to distinguish what is real. They lose contact with reality.

Worsening of psychotic symptoms through cannabis use

Cannabis use generally makes psychotic symptoms worse and lowers the person’s chances of recovery from a psychotic episode. People with a psychotic illness who use drugs experience more delusions, hallucinations and other symptoms. They have a higher rate of hospitalisation for psychosis, and treatment is generally less effective for them. People with a psychotic illness should not use cannabis.

Risks from long-term cannabis use

Cannabis may have additional physical or mental effects on long-term users, including: the risk of asthma, emphysema, shortness of breath, chest infections, and cancers of the throat, mouth and lungs

poor concentration, memory loss and learning difficulties

depression of the immune system, which increases the risk of developing infections.

Cancer-causing (carcinogenic) substances in cannabis

Cannabis smoke has a higher concentration of certain cancer-causing (carcinogenic) agents than the smoke from tobacco. Evidence suggests that cannabis may cause cancers of the lung and the aerodigestive tract (which includes the respiratory tract and the upper digestive tract."

Hi everyone.

Its developing into an interesting topic.

May i add. Im not talking about buying an ounce from your local dealer and smoking it.

Im talkìng about producing oil from the plant in a very specific way that leaves pure oil with no impurities.

The way to use this in copd is probably as a suppository. That eliminates the "high" .

The research into cannabis has now been started by big companies and patents are being applied for left right and centre.

if I make it to 70, I am ditching the pills- getting 100 fags, a crate of Guinness, bottle of vodka and cannabis if I can find some!!!!!!!!

I would like to try something that is more natural than all the pills and inhalers. After heart disease and cancer, prescription drugs are the third biggest killers! I do worry about all the drugs I take and seem not to be doing much.
