The internet has driven me quite demented today...every page I've gone to it has announced gleefully that it isn't responding...like I can't see that myself...then Windows pretends to check for a solution...it never says anything...doesn't say Whoops, your internet connection is rubbish or Can't find anything wrong Mate...go and do some crochet instead.
When we first had a computer we had dial-up...that was a barrel of laughs...it was at the same time I was doing the animal rescue with Maureen so the 'phone never seemed to stop ringing...of course, the very minute I picked the 'phone up the internet went off, so I'd have to start all over again...a friend fiddled about with it and made it ten times worse. The day dawned when we saw a man up a pole in our street...a massive tangle of brightly coloured wires in his hands...he shouted down that we'd lose the head altogether once he'd finished with the brand new internet connection...
I did finally kill that incredibly irritating little bloke who'd pop up on Word...the one who'd suddenly appear and say It looks like you're writing a letter...would you like some help? My replies would have made your teeth curl so they would...in the end I managed to murder him and he's never re-appeared since.
But the terribly posh lady who used to announce several times a day that the Avast security thingy has been updated went away on her own...Himself says she's been sacked, I think she's on maternity leave actually.
There was a time when I felt bereft if the fuse in the plug for the radio blew and I didn't have a spare...then it was if there was something wrong with the television...now it's the Internet connection...
Always something going wrong and the internet seems to be the worse culprit for that. We get Internet Explorer is not responding - really! I had no idea or Can't connect to Outlook right now - you don't say. I have had pages that cannot be found but no solution, I press fix connection problems but they cannot be fixed! Drives me insane Vashti so I do sympathise. I am now reaching for the off switch.
do you use google Chrome Vashti when something happens or it is stuck trying to conect it asks if you want to wait or kill I am bloody thirsty me and kill the damn thing to that response you get "awe shucks Jim hes dead"

Google Chrome sort of lurks in dark corners Ant...haven't up-loaded it though!
I have been having problems with this site doing the same thing and a few people pictures disappeared yesterday so perhaps they are doing something on the site

I sympathise, we have had problems for days, Google keeps loosing itself, even though like Ant i kill it. Suddenly, instead of google searching i have pages of MSN & it wont me load Google. I have taken off all the short cuts and tried loading from the startup, seems to be working. I thought it might be the high wind, ok I do know, the internet is not like the overhead telephone lines that used to crash down in the gales. But maybe it makes the signals wavy or something. I think it could drive me mad, then again maybe it has.love Margaret x
I have spent a very long time trying to get a better connection with my provider yesterday and the rubbish he was spouting was incredible. I was selling this and networks for many years and do know what a standby pc etc. makes to a network while in standby. So when I disconnected 60% of the connections and it was in fact slower he said I was lieing? Did not go down well!
Hi Vashti, I have had this problem for a few months now.
Not only the 'not responding' scenario, but also 'not responding due to a long-running script'. Can't find anyone who has a solution to this, and the patience of Job is always required. My sympathy, I know what you are going through, let me know if you find a solution. Take care.
Hi Vashti sympathise with your probe. My pet hate is the printer. Tried typing a letter as bad handwriting.Took about1/2 an hour followed by 2 forgetting the printer to print it. Now this is the third time I have typed this comment! Sometimes technology seems rather point!less best wishes barnowl
Have any of you tried clearing your browsing history? Leave the cookies, as they speed things up, and anything saved, such as forms. That usually works. On IE, you go to internet options. On Google Chrome, you click the three horizontal bars, top right corner, then go to History.
As soon as my internet seems slow, that is what I do. If you are an IE user Microsoft have a thing called Fixya, a little man with a spanner. Worth a look.
Ah yes I remember them,Some internet providers have a page which tells you if there are problems in your area. We have gale force winds here that affect our mobile signal.
Since the Infinity internet arrived, our speeds have been great, but it is only available in the city at the moment. There still some poor souls in the back of beyond on dial up.
I hear Virgin is brilliant but as it is cable we can't have it, as the cable stopped before it reached us.
Mind you, were were offline from Tuesday to Friday recently, due to a loose wire. There were roadworks and for some reason, our wire was affected.
