Hi all, a quick question about e cigs and if it's possible they they cause COPD in a healthy person and would they be unsafe for someone already suffering with COPD ?

I would love to know people's views.

I have used E cigs for 4 years after quitting smoking, eventually weening myself down to 0 % nicotine (as many E cig uses do) and not noticed any worsening of my COPD.

There are also no records of E cigs causing or worsening COPD

in fact my GP put me down as an ex smoker as soon as i completely stopped smoking and was only vaping. he knew about my planned decrease of nicotine and completely approved of it.

Hope that helps

Smoking causes COPD because of the smoke and the tar that the smoke creates. E fags don't create smoke...only vapour, so can't cause the same damage. Only long time use will discover any other damage. Brompton Hospital encourages e-fag use for smokers and has even critised the government and other health professionals that ring the alarm bells with no proof.

Breathing in anything but the our polluted air is in my opinion the best idea. I do agree it does seem that vaping is a far better way of weaning yourself of the fags. But I do not seem to find much research into any problems they could cause? Anything alien that gets into the lungs could cause a reaction maybe? We all react to different things in different ways.

I am asthmatic with mild COPD and stopped smoking 5 years ago thanks to the e-cig. There is a mass of research on the subject - people just prefer scaremongering from the gutter press. The answer to both your questions is "No". Here are some links, and e-cigaretteresearch.com should interest you too.

Sorry these links don't seem to work but I have posted them before - they should be under "Smoking" or e-cigs
