Hi all!! Im hoping someone can answer my question. I have just been changed from fostair to spiriva. Is spiriva a combination inhaler or do I still have to use the fostair. I

The nurse changed it as I was suffering from constant thrush and sinus problems with the fostair

Spiriva is in not a combination inhaler. I use it plus Seretide which is a combination inhaler.

Do I just use the ventolin when I need it then or do I still need a combination inhaler with the spiriva. I'm confused as to the nurse didn't really explain

Normally it is a three inhaler therapy .

One long acting, eg Spiriva ..........taken once a day

One long acting with steroid eg Seretide ...taken twice a day

And one short act reliever eg Ventoline. If as when required

It would have been the steroid component of Fostair which was causing the thrush, so you've been given a bronchodilator without a steroid component instead. Use Ventolin as well as needed.

Thank you so much for your help. I only started using spiriva yesterday and when I looked on the healthunlocked.com everyone else seems to be on spiriva, preventer and releiver.

Hi, I use Spireva, Qvar, nebulised Ventolin and then Fostair in the morning, same in the evening except for the Spireva. Hope you soon feel better but why not ring the BLF Helpline? Take care, Lizzy x

We're all different, some need steroid element, some given' just in case' some it doesn't suit, some dont need it . You'll need to go back to your respiratory nurse and determine what she intended you to do. Telephone consultation should do.
