Left swollen ankle

Just thought I would ask before I go to gp this afternoon, for about 1 month my left ankle swollen, right one fine, I value all your opinions, as my gp is very good at coming out with all these high faluting words and dismisses me, that's why I left ankle so long, hoped it would go away,no such luck, any advice would be great. My doctor checked my recent blood tests, as I have to have them every six months due to liver disease, not alchohol related, anyway went to hospital earlier this month to see my gastroenterolgist, I asked him how my blood results were and he said they were fine, gp for some reason checked them and he looked shocked, he said last time my blood done test showed my blood levels were 11.4 yesterday they were 5.1 don't understand these numbers, asked him what that meant, he said my iron extremely low and he can't understand how they got so low so fast, I already am on iron pills, as had severe gastric bleed losing 5 pints blood through mouth, lots of transfusions, cut a long story short, he said my weakness and severe breathing is down to iron, I have taken no pump for COPD and am not gasping for breath like I was, just breathing a bit fast like I remember 2 years ago when I was very anemic like I am now, he is going to contact my gastroenterolgist, with a view to admitting me for transfusion, oh yes he said swelling of one foot due to anaemia, so all think of me this weekend, lying in the worst or one of the worst hospitals in UK, having blood transfusions, will let you all know before I go. Hi Annette same thing here but both ankles/feet though the left one was worse. GP gave me some water tablets, and though its annoying going to the loo every 5 minutes it does seem to be helping, swelling not nearly so bad today. Good luck and do keep us posted. xx

My left foot and ankle is swollen most of the time, my right one not so bad. I cannot wear most of my shoes. Luckily I have two pairs of Doctor Lightfoot which have velcro straps. The left one barely reaches across.

It is to do with your heart not pumping fast enough.

My left ankle has been swollen on one side only for about 6 months, I went to the GP who said it's not fluid, it's fat which for some reason had settled there! He said if it was fluid it would be all round my ankle. Could be because I always sit with that ankle tucked under my bottom. Good luck with GP

I have my left side of my left ankle swollen at the moment and has been for some weeks now. I have had 2 senior hospital doctors tell me I have chronic gout. But a new GP I saw said not as it is not red? I have seen an xray of my right foot which shows the gout in all its glory and that was not red either? but she will not have it?

If it is all around it could be a slight strain or fluid? If you put you finger in the swelling does it leave a dent for some time?

Hi, have you any pain in your ankle? I have terrible pain and swelling in my right ankle and the doctor says it's arthritis. Hope you get a good result at the doctors. Love Liz x

No pain and gp said breathing and fatique due to very low iron levels, also swollen foot done to the same thing, but your could be different though, I would go to gp. Annette

Hi everyone seeing GP tommorow morning earliest time could get, other foot starting now, and the left one well it's gone up the leg, difficult to walk, why he dident give me water tabs in first place I do not know, thanks for all your support and let you all know what he does tommorow. Annette
