I am being treated for severe COPD, an illness I never knew I had until acquiring pneumonia in a hospital during heart failure treatment last September. I am told to use Spiriva and Symbiocort as inhalers, and to start an exercise regimen. They say my condition can not be reversed, but I am a spiritual person and do not accept that. I would like to know if anyone with a similar illness has felt recovery or improvement.

My husband has severe Copd and has had it for over 12 years. He takes spiriva in the morning to open his airways and symbicort two puffs twice a day. Copd cannot be reversed but there is a lot you can do to improve your quality of life. Exercise is essential. Has your doctor offered a pulmonary rehab course - you have to be referred but it really helped my husband by showing him how to exercise and learned about his condition. Blf have some very good leaflets. The best of luck lots of love TAD xx

Hello David, nice to meet you, I was diagnosed with c.o.p.d., severe emphysema and Bronchitis / possible asthma, severe airways disease, I believe that we can all improve our conditions by using our minds just by thinking positively, and being mindful. I have improved since stopping smoking 11 years ago, reached a plateau... I've been on oxygen for two years and I have read here of some people being on oxygen for 20 and enjoying life! ( this is a great site ) :D So now I'm enjoying the journey and am not going to let this dis-ease stop me!

I take Spiriva, Serevent 500, ambulatory oxygen

But the important things to remember are yearly flu-jabs, pneumonia , just the one is needed, avoid people with colds if you can, eat a healthy diet and exercise every day, drink plenty of water, be as well and as happy as you can be!, huff x

Thank you. I'm happy to hear you are positive. Despite all the doom and gloom I've heard, I believe that Almighty God knows and listens. Modern medicine is sometimes powerful (I've had 13 operations in two years), but the Lord is much more so... infinitely more so.

Hi David, I hope you have a little more peace of mind after joining this group. Last year just before Xmas, I was struggling to breathe, and the help and support from people on this site was amazing. There are some people on this site who are very ill themselves, and yet will kindly offer you the best advice they possibly can. Kind regards. Marie.

Yes, Marie, these are newly found friends with compassion. I appreciate them and I think the Lord does, too.

Pat and Graham,

Your interest and comments are not only appreciated, but vital. I could not find your post. Would you mind elaborating on your curative experience? Your help would give me hope.

Thanks, but am lost in all the verbiage. Can you give me an over-view or web reference?

Thank you so much.

Thank you very much for your trouble. I will start 10,000 units of vit A and 1,000 units of D each day. The hope you give me is beyond words. But on a spiritual level, your love has also been an influence on her recovery, I am sure. May the Lord bless you.

Hi Pat and Graham

Do you think this might work for chronic bronchitis COPD? (grasping and gasping at straws!)

I was diagnosed with Moderate COPD 4 yrs ago. I am currently on 2 inhalers - Albuterol and Advair and also use a neubilizer. As you probably know COPD main culprit is cigarette smoking. And, yes it is non-reversible and can only get worse if he/she continues to smoke.

Also during Allergy season - it is harder on people with COPD due to breathing in bacteria in the area which increases shortness of breath.

I made an appointment this week to see a Pulmonoligist because I know my COPD has worsened. I have been a smoker for 37 yrs and finally quit 2 weeks ago.

You had mentioned that you were unaware of having COPD until you went in for pneumonia - Millions of people are walking around with COPD and don't know it because many think it's just a smokers cough and also the shortness of breath.

I have been in denial for quite some time - that it would not come to a point that I will eventually be on oxygen - well.......wrong.

When I see the specialist this week I will talk to him about oxygen and I am up a lot during the night with shortness of breath. I also feel that my COPD has worsened from the moderate stage to severe.

You might want to try the Booth's vitamin possible cure noted earlier here.

i am doing as you suggest. Best of all, it gives me hope knowing this disease' progression will be checked and regress. I can not express my appreciation enough. May the Lord watch after you both.

We could not find (here in the USA) vitamin A less than 10,000 units and D3 less than 1,000 units, both of which are gels which do not cut in half. So I am taking both once a day. My potassium's good and checked every month with blood tests, once again, many thaks,

Doc has been drawing blood every month to monitor issues I have with kidneys, heart, liver and other vitals because I am on 12 medications daily and one pill seems to affect others. In any event, they watch my potassium closely. I am a little confused. Are you suggesting D2 or D3?

Have you talked to your doc about how other patients are doing on your vitamins? Thanks again and again. I am sure God has sent you to help others,

Thank you very much indeed for all the information - I am supposed to take Adcal (D3 I think) as I have osteopenia but keep forgetting. I've used Chemist Direct before - they're very good - just need to check with surgery before I take the plunge! 💊

It appears that your wife is pointed in the direction of a cure, not merely maintenance. I'm used to docez language. No one wants to come right out for what something is in reality. Thanks again.

Thanks again! I take your point although I take Adcal so erratically that it may not be a problem. I think I will get some Vit A anyway!

I want to thank Graham Booth for his devotion to help others. He is very intelligent and loves his wife, which drives the fight to find a COPD solution. Docs 'go by the book' and several times I found solutions to medical problems from truck drivers and others who have to combat an illness without any help from docs who are overburdened with too many patients and little time to assist. I am dutifully following Graham's formula for success.

Graham,

You noted your doc has invited other patients to try your vitamin fix for COPD. I wonder if you have heard of any progress they are making? I've been on your formula for several weeks and don't expect any visible improvement any time soon, but your wife's illness appeared to be 'checked' and no further degradation and that is my hope.

Once again I thank you for trying to help others who have no other hope.

Graham,

I would hope your doc could at least say one or two patients show signs of reversal... especially you putting him on the right track. I know almost all docs keep their heads down and don't admit to ignorance of anything new, but I believe we are in this world to help others.

I smoked most of my life. Almost everyone around smoked. But I am guilty of not stopping sooner than three years ago. My COPD surfaced with no warning last autumn when I had heart failure. Previously I was a vigorous person. But while in intensive care, a doc 'forgot' to continue the intravenous diuretic given in the emergency room and I developed pneumonia overnight in the hospital. Been on oxygen ever since. I resent many docs as a result. No one gives any hope except you.

It appears that the UK is more advanced on this topic than the USA. So what I've learned is from you

You might be surprised if you look up CATHEDRALGARDENS.COM.

THANKS AGAIN. Dave

David: After reading your experience with Vitamin A and D2, I checked with 2 different stores (one was A Vitamin Cottage in US) and no one seems to have Vitamin D2. Do you know the benefit differences between D1, D1, and D3. D1 and D3 are very accessible most places. Thank you. bogo3995

No, I have not known until receiving your message.

I looked up Dr Mercola on the internet. (He publishes daily info on many topics.) He states that D2 and D3 have been studied in trials. D2 has shown detrimental to life expectancy versus D3 increasing life spans. Other than that I am not chemically inclined to understand why they function as they do. I suppose that is why D2 is hard to locate.

Thank you for your adding to the topic.

D3 is the form produced in the skin by the action of sunlight. D2 is derived from fungi, D3 from animal sources. D3 is the superior supplement. The only reason to prefer D2 is if you're a strict vegan.
