Buying New Clothes...

We went to Tesco's this afternoon...look at me, writing about a feckin' supermarket as though it's seriously interesting...anyway we went and the sky was bright blue and the wind howled and rocked the car when we came to the open parts of the road...

Lorries were tucked into the slow lane...it must be seriously scary driving anything high-sided in such powerful winds...

I found a pair of black cargo trousers and a really pretty plain purple silky top...it doesn't have long sleeves though and I'm horribly conscious of having very skinny but flabby upper arms...perhaps they'll look better if they get a bit of sun.

A small girl stuck her tongue out at me so I stuck mine out at her and she looked so alarmed and hid behind her mother...one of those hefty security men was watching and he laughed and gave me a wink...

I suppose they rely on their size to frighten shop-lifters...there's a bloke in Heaton's in Roscommon who doesn't actually have a neck...his head sort of sits on his shoulders and he's built like a barn door.

Makes me giggle though when I notice people's reactions to the oxygen...some sort of dither when they see me approaching as though they don't quite know what to do...some stick their noses in the air and others stare...I smile at the starers and ignore the others...

That's just in Tesco's though, where most of the shoppers come from Essex in England and spend endless hours grumbling about the price of pizza and not being able to buy Heinz Salad Cream...

On reaching the checkout, the girl said there was ten euro off the clothes...excellent!

We were blown home again along the new road going from County Mayo into County Roscommon, with the long sweep of the Ox mountains on one side and the tiny stone-walled famine fields on the other...home now to a horse or a couple of donkeys, standing with their backs to the walls, trying to keep out of the keening wind.

Long deserted cottages surrounded by clumps of delicate wild daffodils...there will be bluebells soon...misty clouds of shimmering blue under the trees and around the edges of the fields...but for now, there is the occasional patch of coltsfoot flowers and some brave dandelions.

Please the gods that warm sunny days are not too far away...

Hi Vashti, I was treated to those very same strong westerly winds myself this afternoon when I plucked up courage and went out for a walk.

I experienced Wind, Rain, Cold, Warm, Sun and Blue Sky's, which is typical of this time of year. When the clouds came racing over the Malverns they were dark and full, ready to unleash their load down on us stupid folk who dared to venture out, I was out to clear the lungs but there were many out walking their dogs who demand their daily walks whatever the weather. This is probably why I have two cats who hate this weather as much as I do. :) .

Those warm and sunny days are close now and boy am I going to make the most of them once they arrive. :)

A bit bracing then Tony...when I was a child we lived near Ludlow and often visited Malvern...can't remember what for though...lol

Must have been the good looking people who walk the Malverns eh' Vashti.

Before I fell ill I used to play tennis against Ludlow Castle down by the river and another Ludlow side called Burway south Shropshire up on top of the hill.

I really miss my tennis now but have to be grateful for what I still have, who knows if I ever get the transplant I may return to the courts again some day. :) .

Ludlow is famous these days for its many restaurants and fine foods in the town but after tennis it was sandwiches and a pint in the pub paid for by the home side. :) :)

De Greys café for afternoon tea...the waitresses were about ninety and the cakes to die for...my little brother went to the Grammar school there...they had to call the sixth formers Sir!

You put in so much effort Tony you ought to get a transplant...hopefully sooner than later then you'll be back on the courts...

Recently I bought a lovely blue and white dress online. I missed the bit saying it was a halter neck. It was reduced from £50 to £19. It is lined and beautifully made. Trouble is, when I put it on, my husband pointed out the side boobs showing either side. I was determined to keep the dress, so have bought a white shrug/bolero which covers the side boobs nicely. I have a beige shrug and a black one. They are very useful with short sleeved or sleeveless garments.

When I was young, I wasn't all that interested in fashion, apart from looking clean and tidy. I loved make up and looking after my hair. Nowadays, I don't wear much make up but spend a lot of money on my hair. It still looks as if I have been through a hedge backwards, as soon as there is a bit of wind . Not sure what the solution is to that. It always seems to be windy on hairdo day.

As for clothes, I love them, most of the time I wear black leggings or stretch jeans. I buy mine from Lidl when they are on offer. They have lovely tops and cardigans too, in pretty colours. I wish I could wear high heels and pretty shoes, but my ankles are swollen most of the time. Not a pretty sight. My standbys are black leather trainers with velcro straps. Also black flat shoes, although I do have a beige pair for summer.

in reply to Azure_Sky

You found the ideal solution to your pretty frock and side boobs! I love black leggings...with a loose top...

Hair...had mine cut seriously short after spending weeks in hospital with the nurses trying to wash it for me while I was virtually comatose...now it's easy to look after...bit of gel to make the top stand up and my hairdressers father has COPD so we compare notes while she's wielding the scissors!

Brilliantly descriptive again,it's as though I am seeing all this through your eyes, nice to get a bargain, especially as it was unexpected.😃

in reply to redted

And especially because I'm usually hopeless at getting a bargain...lol

Your new outfit sounds lovely Vashti. How bout a pashmina thrown over it to hide the bits you don't want on public display ? I'm a huge fan of long trailing scarves and pashminas. They make me feel exotic :) Aging hippy exotic :)

Windy down here too but those long evenings are a delight.

in reply to

That's a really good idea Argana! I will be copying it. Xx

in reply to

Never thought of that...and I already have several ultra long scarves....brilliant idea....thank you Argana!

Warmer weather is on the way vashti - I ordered it specially for you my love. It has been very windy here and last night it howled through the eaves like it was possessed! I love hearing it when tucked up in bed nice and warm.

You will get the chance to wear your lovely new clothes soon hopefully. xx

in reply to

Don't mind a bit during the night when the wind blows...like it then...but trying to get from front door to car in the daytime is almost impossible!

Have you seen those fleece tube things that you pull over your head? They are marvelous for keeping your neck warm. You can pull it up over your chin. It really works and mine does wonders at keeping neuralgia at bay. I can't remember the name of the thing.

Good one Vashti, i sympathise with the skinny yet flabby arm bit! My GP said it was a result of the steroids, Hmm. Love Sheila Xx

in reply to

Just what mine said as well...lol

Amazing as usual ,it's got to be a part of a book that u are writing,I'm a artist ,I know another when I meet them ,your a writer..... I love reading your story's they are so true to life ,very gifted, yes I've got t he good fortune of having oxy soon ,I hope. I frighten people if they look at me ,I'll jump and scare them. Then ill get the bloke with no neck to arrest me out the store,I hope you wouldn't find me in Tesco at the clothes dept. I'm a superdry fan.x

in reply to Colours23

Oxygen is brilliant...I like it! I'm keeping quiet over 'the book'....!

Colours23 profile image
Colours23 in reply to

That's good so I will enjoy oxy ,people stare at me anyway ,I'm full of smiles and energy they can't quite connect with me ....funny. If they stare when I've oxy I will poke my tongue out and embarrasse them. Will I be able to breath better when I go out.i hope so.

in reply to Colours23

I know everyone is different, but having oxygen means I can go all round a big supermarket without having to stop even once to get my breath back...

When at home, I can't even go for a pee without gasping...if I'm not 'plugged in'...lol

It's been an absolute godsend!

That is amazing I needed it a year ago and have been struggling ever since, they get some pleasure out of seeing me suffer like I have. Wait til your almost dead these days to do with money. Even change the machine to a higher no. They think your as stupid as what they are.

It's no good Vashti - you'll have to spin and weave in the future!

You shouldn't worry about your arms Vashti, If you saw a programme on More4 last night about young guys who only fancy older women, you would never worry again! There was a lady of 90 years old who gets regular visits from a 25 year old guy and she dresses up for him in all this "sexy" underwear etc., All those wrinkles made me feel like a teenager in comparison. Can't say I enjoyed the programme, but it did give me a boost to see all those old ladies who say to the world "Go to hell, this is my life!" :-D XX

Hi Nikkers. What they didn't mention was they all look like Wayne Rooney.

in reply to warwickstag

Would that have been the toy boys or the women Warwick...lol

I was about to ask that Vashti. To be fair the guys weren't bad looking, but I can't imagine why they think the way they do?

in reply to Nikkers

It's a bit...odd...almost like a fetish I think...

I am sending some of our sunshine to you vashti. Hope it reaches you very soon. We also went to Tesco yesterday but did not have such fun as you did and the security men are dull by comparison, a bit skinnier too. There was £5 off all clothing if you spent over £25 but I just got a cute pair of joggers for our granddaughter (aged 6 months) for £3.50 so no discount. Never mind, Sainsbury's has 25% off clothing at the moment so off I will go to that store on Friday.

Have a good day. xxxxx

P.S. People actually do not see Pete (quite a big man) on his scooter and dash in front of him or behind him when he is "peeping" (drives me insane!) to reverse. Kids usually stare, some people tutt but most just ignore him. Great fun. xx

in reply to sassy59

I hadn't seen the sign so it was a pleasant surprise when the cashier told me...would love to have a baby or small child to buy clothes for...all our grandchildren are adults now...

Didn't know scooters have a peeper...I'd have huge fun with that!

The sunshine didn't arrive here until this morning. It was pretty cool and dull most of yesterday. I live in Norfolk where we often have different weather to the rest of the country. Not a drop/flake of snow this winter.
