Hello - I care for my husband who has severe COPD and, as he is over 65, claims attendance allowance. Under that age you are able to claim disability allowance - I believe. It might be worth telephoning the helpline and asking their advise - Call the BLF Helpline on 03000 030 555 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) . Take care, love TAD xx

Hi

That would depend on how it affects you ...there are people who go about their days with little or no problems but others need a lot of help.

There is a gov website you can go on to find out if you fit the criteria but i cant remember what it is although if you type it into google im sure it will come up....just put something like """" am i entitled to pip payments""" that should work but if it says you could get it you will need some letters of support from either your gp, consultant, respiratory nurse etc plus you will need an interview so getting supporting evidence can only help

It totally depends on your situation. If you look at direct.gov.uk it will give you all the information. x

You may be entitled to a Blue Badge, if under65 Personal independence Payment and Employment Support Allowance. Over 65 Attendance allowance. Suggest you get help filling in forms as they can be daunting.

I have COPD and things are getting harder for me I have been turned down twice :( but the nature of this disease means you are bound to get worse. Just waiting to be reassesd in a week or two if I have gone into stage 3 going to apply again. Good luck.

gov.uk/benefits-calculators

This is the DWP benefit checker well worth looking at as it will give you an idea of what may be available to you? It will all depend on the age and conditions. Plus what mood they are in on the day it seems also ;)

Hi I'm in first stage of copd. I was diagnosed in March this year if you have problems getting about because asthma and copd you are entitled to a government grant to assist at home/work I have multiple disability and I have dla/ pip which you are entitled, also if over 60 you qualify for attendance allowance. Dla you probably qualified for a motorbiking scooter / car you can have three drivers to assist you if you don't drive, and if you can get on line for there number they are really helpful and can advise on many things

I'm going through a really bad depression right now, but I used to be a mental health support worker and you have to keep going and pushing your boundaries a bit more each day, ring dwp and ask them about income support dla/pip and this should help you if you want some phone numbers or Web addresses I'm only to glad to help I to have had asthma etc now I have steroid inhalers nasal sprays prednisalone and even practices has said the inhalers are designed for copd /emphysema so why hasn't someone done something about this especially as it's the 5th biggest killer in UK
