Ghosts and Guardian Angels?

I have always considered myself as, healthily sceptical, in such matters. Yet there have been five incidents in recent years that I can't fully explain. Two, were genuinely life threatening. These two events, were not of my making and were totally out of my control. Had somebody, at some prior time, asked me, what would you do if... My answer would be, “apart from blind panic and dread, I haven't got a clue”. On both occasions, I was completely alone, both were unexpected, violent, and started within a split second. Yet, on both occasions, after a moment of shear panic, I was consumed by an incredible and sudden calmness. I have always been a laid back type of bloke, once being described as, half man, half mattress and I think that's a fair and accurate assessment. But, if during these events, I had totally lost it, assuming I had survived, I would have fully forgiven myself. Whether it was divine intervention, a skill hidden deep inside or instinct, I don't know. The jury's still out!

In contrast, the three other occasions were uplifting and comforting. On each occasion, just in that moment between wakefulness and sleep, I feel a hand, stroke my head. Just once, from forehead to neck. The way a mother comforts her child. On each occasion, I was troubled. Yet immediately, the weight was lifted. I can't explain it! But I'm so glad it happens.

I also have a chilling and tragic ghost story. It involves my family and happened when my mum was just 18 years old. The story always sent chills down my spine and just thinking about it now, still does. When I summon up the courage, I will post it.

Fascinating stuff SteveR1 and when you do feel like it I would love to hear more. It is amazing how we can sometimes be comforted from beyond. Thanks for the post. xx

It is a longish story and would probably bore your sock off! When I'm able to express myself concisely, I will post it.

The head stroking, I just don't know.

Thanks

Fascinating... there's so much we don't know or understand and we won't until it's our turn to cross over. I do believe there is a better life waiting for us. :-)

in reply to Jolyn

Hello Jolyn, I hope you're right, I just don't want to find out too soon!

There's a book I read some time ago, you may have heard of it, it's called, Proof of Heaven. I found it browsing on Amazon. To be honest, I swung between belief and scepticism.

Take care

I keep dying and then waking up in a parallel world in which I didn't die.

Confusing until I get used to all the little differences.

No escape from the Multiverse . . .

Lovely and intriguing post Steve. Thank you. Also would like to hear more in your own time.

It strange how many people have had that comforting hand on the shoulder or hair, or sometimes just a caressing finger on the face in times of distress. Had that one myself only once many years ago but will not forget it. Defense mechanism or something more??

Take care. Sara.

in reply to butter-fly

Same as everybody else, I'm in the dark. I've never met anybody who's had that type of experience. I would love to hear your story.

Thanks Sara

I truly believe we are watched over, and when help is really needed we get that help in many different ways.I can't explain it,but it exists because I have experienced such help.

in reply to redted

It really is a strange world. I am open minded, but things do happen that I certainly I can't explain. I know scientists go some way in giving an explanation, but on many things, as they learn more, often change their minds.

Why not tell us your story, I'd like hear it.

What wonderful experiences - I was once a sceptic, but am no longer - can't explain any of it, but do now believe in the spiritual world. xx

Fight or Flight is the main reason for the strange things we do and feel in life. It is a inbuilt instinct. I believe we are a chemical entity reliant on reaction to events. People faint because they do not want to be part of the event in front of them. I was having an Ablation and I watched the heart monitor flatline and it seemed like an age before it beeped again. I did not feel anything different at all which the cardiologist thought strange? But as a person that has had a heart attack the pain from that was not pleasant at all. But straight after the severe pain I felt euphoric. Which is the adrenalin kicking in and gave a feeling over the head and neck /back for me.

Be well

“At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless;

Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is,

But neither arrest nor movement. And do not call it fixity,

Where past and future are gathered. Neither movement from nor towards,

Neither ascent nor decline. Except for the point, the still point,

There would be no dance, and there is only the dance.”

My internal swingometer is usually stationed around the mid-point, occasionally moving slightly in one direction or the other. In my opinion, when comparing the infinity of our wonderful universe, in which we occupy a minuscule part, to the sum total of our knowledge and understanding. That knowledge is infinitely smaller than a grain of sand. Anybody, who proclaims to have the answer at either end of this spectrum, is in all probability, wrong or right. We are all fumbling in the dark and we all, at some point, latch onto a perceived “truth”, which, without doubt will be be right or wrong.

Years ago, there was shop close to where I lived and in the window the shopkeeper placed a sign, which read: The world ended yesterday, today is just an action replay. A joke, at the mysteries of life or a profound statement of his belief. Whatever he chose to express, I did not judge. His statement was right or wrong.

In the great scheme of things, if indeed there is a scheme, I think we all take ourselves too seriously and in the end, does it any of this really matter? At times we are all guilty of disappearing up our own backsides. We should, sit back, open our eyes and revel in the beauty and mysteries surrounding us. There is no solution, there no answer and never will be! To me, there is a beauty in that. I have no desire to know more. It is futile and life is too short or long.

There is no right. There is no wrong. Just different.

This is just my opinion, and is, 100% right or wrong.

In the words of the great John Lennon: Whatever gets you through your life, it's all right, all right.

Take care and keep trucking, stilltruckin'

Thanks for the link, I've given it a quick look at but at this time of day I'm liberating a few whisky's and I'm finding it hard to take in. But in the meantime, why not tell your views. Don't be too cryptic or I'll give up!

And are you an Ex-trucker or does your name indicate your fortitude?

Cheers (think I just said that to myself)

Stilltruckin derives from 'Keep on trucking', a general phrase of encouragement used by us hippies, back in the day.

'Life is a dissolving moment, in which there is nothing to grasp and no one to grasp it'.

- Alan Watts

in reply to stilltruckin

Hippy eh? Flowers in the hair and everything. Good un. I'm an ex-trucker and also used the term. Just read your profile, got where you're coming from now. And put that cig out!
