Hi all, can anybody recommend a travel insurance company that doesn't charge silly money when having to use oxygen whilst in flight?

don't forget that you need a fit to fly certificate for the airline

Yes, thank you, I have one of those but that's another issue. Getting that completed by hospital in a short space of time, nothing seems to be simple. 😁

Good morning Joy123,

We have a list of travel insurance companies that will insure people with a pre existing condition. Give us a call and I can send it to you.

I'm new to this and have only just seen your message. Thank you, I think I may have found an insurer but if no luck will be in touch 😊

I tried several from the BLF. List, not many want to know when you are on oxygen.Try payingtoomuch,I did get a reasonable quote from them, but of course depends what reasonable is for the likes of us.Some airlines are more pickie than others,if I take my own POC I only need a letter for fitness to fly, other airlines want a form filled in,if you do find any reasonable quotes let us all know.Make sure you get in touch with the airline well before you fly, also special assistance is great.Best of luck Sooki.

It isn't the use of oxygen in-flight which will determine the cost of insurance. It is the condition which makes it necessary to use oxygen and, of course, the medication which you are taking. If you have been quoted a very high premium then get a quote from another Company. If that quote is similar then, sadly, that is what you will have to pay for insurance.

I went onto Money Supermarket comparison website, put in all my medication details and got a reasonable deal. (About £125 for a year) but it depends on your meds more than the oxygen on the flight. Good luck!

If you have or can hire a Portable O2 Concentrator, then Ryan air is good. We have flown twice with them, and their special assistance was very good. (Airport Assistance is out with their control, as I found out when Stansted screwed up)

Read the whole thing on the website so you don't miss anything, then follow it all through. We took Ryanair's Travel Insurance.

They have a special assistance phone line, so you can ask questions.....note down your questions before you phone!

Thank you for your advice but I usually travel alone and don't want the additional luggage to carry. I'll let you know how I get on though. 😊

Try Staysure, I have used them for twice yearly trips to the USA for the last 10 years. Pre existing cover for COPD, Osteoarthritis & Osteoporosis. I am NOT on oxygen but worth a try. Not cheap to the USA, no insurer is, paid £ 480 for annual cover that included a 10 % discount as an existing customer. A warning though, I have to pay for any treatment FIRST and then claim it back LESS the £100 excess. I feel like a footballer, as in I could spit ! Good hunting.

Thank you, it's the in flight oxygen causing a problem, I don't use it normally but was prescribed it for first time last year. I flew to Menorca with Thomas Cook, they charged £200 for oxygen and forgot to turn it on on outbound flight, I'd never had it before so didn't notice! Haha!! 😊

I have just booked a flight with Thomson's as my husband will need oxygen for the flight and they don't charge for the oxygen. This is the first time that he will need oxygen for a flight so it's all new to us.

I booked insurance with Getgoing travel insurance cost £209.10 for both of us for a month in Kos. My husband has IPF and emphysema and I have angina, he is 75 and I am 68 so I thought that was a reasonable price for insurance. The respiratory nurse said that on the declaration when it asks if you have been prescribed oxygen tick the no box because he hasn't been prescribed it for home.

Hope this helps you.
