Hi everyone

Thinking about taking probiotics or enzymes and wondered how many of you take them. Do you feel they help you and which one do you take.

Hope everyone is well.

Dear Ruby,

Yes I take probiotics, their are sufficient in the 50+ Multibionta multivitamins and probiotics, I take them because constant antibiotics destroy the beneficial bacteria in your stomach and the probiotics replace them. Also some years ago my GP drew my attention to an article of some research which had found that this particular Multivitamin with sufficient probiotics, cut down the risk of catching cold viruses which with our condition eventually lead to infections.

My 10 year experience of using them suggests this might be the case as I only suffer from a cold very infrequently and although in very severe stage and on oxygen 24/7 I manage to lead a very full life, I am very busy with all my hobbies and external interests.

Hope this is helpful.

Best Regards,

Robert

I have been taking one a day every day since my ICU stay in 2008 and I feel I have had less colds. But nothing else has improved?

I will continue to take them though!

Be well

I am a great believer in probiotics! Especially after all the antibiotics that my husband has taken. He has actimel once a day and until this year would have said that he seems to have been mostly germ free BUT he got flu in January and doesn't seem to have recovered properly, in fact he started with a sore throat etc. on Monday. Hope you are keeping well, TAD xxx

I think I'm going to try that. Is it expensive? Its no wonder your husband is sick. There are so many

bugs going around. Its really been a bad winter. What do you think about the enzymes?

I never replied to you from my heartburn post. You had said maybe turmeric was giving me heartburn. I am used to it so no. With your husband you should start out with just a sprinkle on his food.

I am taking pepcids now and am going to get some actimel. You take care

I drink Kefir every day that I make myself, its natural and full of probiotics. If you are interested have a look on Happy Kombucha website. It has certainly helped me.

Good Morning Ruby Hope your having a good day. I don't have any factual information but my daughter takes them when she is on antibiotics because antibiotics knock out the natural bugs in the gastrointestinal system. My doctor says there a waste of money. Best wishes Nan

I now take probotics, multivitamin 50+. I take them instead of cholesterol tablets, because of the side effects. One is can cause joint and muscle pain, of which I suffer enough of. I showed my GP the content of these tablets and he said good they won't hurt and might do me good. So I am for these tablets and have found I'm not so tired in the afternoon.

Sending all hugs.

I take acidopholous 1 a day, if I have abs I up it to two a day after the course. Have had very few infections over the time I've been taking them - this could be due to an entirely different reason, but as Tesco say "Every little helps"

Oramorph is low dose morphine,2.5ml four times a day.It helps with breathlessness and calms me down a bit.I have trouble getting into cars,a bit of claustrophobia I think. It can take half an hour to get my breathing under control enough just to get in the car (costs a fortune with cabs lol).Had to get in cab on Monday, for BROMPTON visit, got in after 2 minutes. So the morphine seems to work. Now we,ll see if it helps me get off the dreaded steroids. It also helps me sleep, had four good nights this week, had forgot what a good sleep was lol.Still not sure how much D3 to take as take Alendronic acid and calceos, just on 1x1000iu D3 at the mo.Forgot to mention Scottish heather honey,I suppose that,s a supplement too.Back to being a full flung druggie again haa haa! Cheers D. :D

Hi Ruby I take a multi vitamin and I also have live yoghurt every morning with my breakfast...if I feel a cold coming on I take extra vit c and zinc lozenge for a few days.I noticed someone said they take b12 but I once read that you should take the whole b complex eg b6 ,b12 and so on.

Hi Ruby. Yes I have been taking Acidophilus 3 billion (Holland & Barrett) for a while as I was on quite a few rounds of antibiotics. I only take them after being on antibiotics as they will otherwise interfere with the antibiotics. I did try digestive enzymes in the past as I have GORD (acid reflux) problems but I'm afraid I didn't notice any difference in that, so I came off them. I take quite a lot of other vitamin supplements, and have lately started taking Vit D3 (2000 ul) each day, after reading up on them on this forum. Good luck.xx

hi ruby, have read that it is proper to take pro-biotics.

but also about some tests being done on some common brands, strangely enough my g.p does not recommend these for some reason ? anyway i stick to [well don't actualy stick to literally :D] i take manuka honey 24+ it is very expensive, but can be good for many things [even healing sores ] but it contains natural antibiotics, nor requiring probiotics,, as i'm from scotland it is now being known that scottish heather honey can be as good, and is much cheaper [the manuka honey comes from new zealand from bees who feed from the manuka tree, hence the expense]

trust all is well ruby

kindest thoughts jimmy xxx :)

I take probiotic as I have had to take numerous abs for very frequent HI infections and the abs give me the runs with dreadful griping pains. I get them on prescription after afvice from my lovely pharmacist. They do help put some of the good bacteria back into the gut.
