Oramorph?

My consultant suggests I try this to help with breathlessness.I,ve had a lot of opiates over the years for various reasons,always thought they were constrictive.Some older post seem to say it,s none addictive,I find that very hard to believe.Any recent views?D.

I been using Oramorph for several months, 2ml once per day, sometimes a second lesser dose early evening, no problems as yet.

I had some morphine of some sort was opiat of my doc cant remeber name might started with D or something

Only thing i remmberd to do .. is run back for more when i run out

hi farmer, to answer your question on a oner it is addictive.

as far as the breathing is concerned [copd] about 2ml is supposed to help.

i am on 10 ml for pain, which has the opposite effect on breathing,, not good, seems i cant win

My sister had this for osteoarthitis and it said on the bottle not for those with breathing problems. The doctor was concerned about addiction so it must be addictive. x

I,m an alcoholic ( dry ) I was addicted to IV morphine in my 20 s,comming of that was a walk in the park compared to the booze so I,m not worried about it just surprised it is not considered to be addictive,because of the low dose used for respiratory use.It will be interesting and not a little ironic,lol Thanks D.

I'm on Durogesic patches, opiate based. I was also told they aren't addictive but even reducing the dose made me feel flu like.

My French doctors have kept me been on a low dose Morphine Patch since I had my cancer diagnosis. I questioned this, but was told that a low dose could help my breathing. Also it helps a bit with the pain I get from osteoporosis. So I'm an addict! Love Lolly. x

hi my specialist recommended oramorph for breathlessness 1.25mm 4 times daily it is to help when panic sets in ,I did not want to try it as I know is addictive but it does help me calm down ,so as long as I stick to my dosage hope will all be ok ,but can lead to dependence so use with caution

I had a bit of a party last night and did 6ml instead of 2 (ok, plus some 'green' tincture). Sob's really bad this morning. Never experienced it before a horrendous infection requiring 11 days in hospital in January, but it really helped stabilise my breathing, especially in the mornings. They gave me a small 100 ml bottle to take home but now my GP's given me two 300ml bottles and I'm a bit worried about liking it too much! Mind you, being a low level morph addict's probably the least of my worries.

Hi Notlocal,I,m glad you posted.I thought my GP had got the amount wrong.I thought it said " take 2 x 5ml 4 times a day.Just checked with pharmacist and it,s 2.5ml 4 times a day so I,ve O D,d already lol.Wondered why I felt so cheerful haa haa.So you have probably saved me quite a lot of trouble,thankyou!I,m going to have a kip now to sleep it off.Cheers,D.

Hi Farmer some people have a addictive personality so they find themselves getting addicted to anything. I understand your concern and admire you for giving up the drink well done. Like Jimmy I'm on morphine for pain I have patches I would talk to your GP he might put your mind at rest

Hi Ona ,I was being a bit tongue in cheek,having had a morphine habit many years ago and stopped( on my own) and also being an alcoholic i can assure you giving up opiates is a walk in the park compared to giving up the booze.It,s just a matter of not associating with the people who use it,not so easy with the booze.I found a lot of my friends were actually jealous of the fact I could stop drinking.I even got banned from playing dominoes because being sober I kept winning lol.I,m way passed caring about being addicted to meds if they help me breathe I ll take anything.Regards D.

I used to buy synadoll over the counter they contained codeine and caffeine and they really helped with the pain they were taken off for a short time they have changed them due to people being addicted to them. I think when you get to our age anything that's helps with pain is worth a go that's why I never read the leaflet that comes with the drugs before I get some side effects

Hi - I know this post is a bit old now, I don't come onto the site so often now my husband is no longer with us; he had pulmonary fibrosis, and the only thing which helped him when he de-saturated deeply when moving about was Oramorph - it was a real godsend, helping him to get his breathing back under control. Not something to be scared of when used at the doses for breathlessness - I don't know how we would have managed without it. Eventually he was having 5mls pretty much whenever he needed it.

Hi Gidge,must admit when they first said " palliative morphine " I thought I must be on my way out as my sister in law was given it when dying of cancer.But it is actually helping a lot I just have to keep the dose low as I like it a bit too much.Sorry to hear of your husbands passing,take care.D. 💐
