A Very Nice Young Drummer In A Band...

Couldn't do the grocery shopping yesterday 'cos the car had to be mended...the brake pads had either gone or were going...so we went this afternoon instead. While Himself was away chatting to Jonny in the farmers store, I shot down to the section of Tesco's I don't understand...the bit that offers all manner of stuff for computers and such-like.

I'd have been even more befuddled with Himself heaving heavy sighs, 'cos I wanted to get some ear phones...mine are nasty biting ones that don't fit very well and hurt my ears if I wear them longer than two minutes...they only cost 5 euro so you get what you pay for...

Soft squashy ones sounded nice but the choice is alarming...

It was Rib who mentioned audio books are available on YouTube and I had a look and goodness...there are loads...and all free.

So comfy head phones were high on the agenda.

Then a young man and a little girl appeared as if by magic and I asked him would he ever know about ear-phones and the little girl drew herself up to all of three feet and announced...'My Da is a drummer in a band'...then she skipped off to look at girly stuff.

He was ever so helpful...asked what I wanted them for and said did I have to always use the oxygen and how much did I want to spend...he chose a pair with soft padded ear pieces that have a really long cable...it's six metres...said they'd be the ones he'd choose if he was wired up to oxygen 'cos they'd totally blot out that sort of peeping noise...and I could open the door to the postman if I needed to without having to take them off and they have a volume control on the cable...

Then he showed me the ones he uses when he's D-jaying and the ones he uses when he's on the drums and it was really interesting actually...

So I bought the ones he'd suggested and when we came home I tried them out and it was pure bliss...

What a fortunate encounter Vashti - we will look forward to hearing about your new adventures in the world of audio books. Your story reminded me of when I was designing a hand knitted stage costume for Mo of the Roly Polys some years ago. I was in a shop called Ells and Farrer off Regent Street in London and buying large multi-faceted gold sequin with a small hole for threading. Got talking to a man who was a stage drag artist and he was really interested and gave me lots of good tips about the need for strengthening everything for stage costumes when there are going to be several changes in the course of a performance. He also took me around the shop to show me items I would never have found by myself ... not saying any more about that at the moment!

Wow. A Tesco shop assistant who knows what he's talking about. That's a first for me.

Great story vashti. I remember many years ago in one of the big stores in Tottenham Court Road in London. I had gone there specially to buy some headphones. There was so much choice. I asked the assistant how much I would have to spend to get good ones. I gulped at the figure and then asked how much for reasonable ones. I bought those and they lasted me many a year. Got to be done :O x

Always a silver lining Vashti! Xx
