UKIP and the disabled

Yesterday on East Midlands news, the UKIP prospective parliamentary candidate for Charnwood, Leics, said he thought the disabled and benefit recipients should be banned from driving as they shouldn't be able to afford to drive!!. Priceless.

The guy's an idiot, but he didn't mention the disabled . . .

Maybe not directly, but it's implicit since by definition a lot of benefit claimants are disabled. QED.

So you believe he's targeting pensioners and people claiming in-work benefits as well?

Well presumably you saw the programme so perhaps you could enlighten us and tell us what you think he really means. I believe it was an outrageous comment which if implemented would have a very negative effect on some of lifes most vulnerable people.

Don't know which programme you mean, but I've read various newspaper reports.

My impression was that he was targeting those who could work but don't work.

Perhaps I'm mistaken and he really did mean all benefit claimants without exception, including pensioners (12 million people) and working age disabled people (7 million), thus alienating about 30% of the electorate with his own campaign leaflet . . .

(Job Seekers Allowance claimants - 1 million / 1.5%)

Don't know how many serious newspapers are among those you've read but lest there be any doubt as to what he said the article was the opening feature on East Midlands Today news broadcast at 6:30 pm on Thursday. I can't do links but I'm sure someone more tech minded could. I'll quote verbatim from his election leaflet

"6 million cars could come off the roads if benefit claimants weren't driving. Taxpayers struggle to keep their cars on the roads so Benefits Claimants should really catch a bus".

Seems pretty clear to me what he means.

That's prejudiced against disabled and benefit recipients, after all I have been on benefits in the past and driven my dad's and aunt's cars before so I didn't need any money at all. Next they will want to ban women driving!!! What country does that eh? Yes, that's right a country that is a dictatorship. Turning the public against a certain group of people has become a popular but very dangerous pastime thanks to the present government creating an environment of jealousy and hatred. Not to mention programme makers of benefits cheats etc. Now UKIP! Lets not forget lessons of the past, where people where turned against a group of people and hatred started to turn into violence. This country isn't in this state because of benefits being paid to deserving people, its many problems started years ago under different governments but also we have had the greed of the rich to get richer and they were not on benefits. Not to mention rich MPs lying through their teeth to get their houses done up at our expense. Why is a once civilised country turning into this kind of country where they want to ban this and ban that? Whatever happened to the health service taking care of its citizens to the very end and the ill being given every assistance to live decent lives in warm houses. The workers need better wages so they don't have to rely on tax credits etc. or feel that working makes them worse off than those on benefits, raise wages and improve working conditions with longer holidays like the rest of Europe. How come England which is in Europe is the only country in Europe not to have a public holiday for the VE Day celebrations? I best stop the keyboard warrior now.

A tour de force Witchygirl - agree with every word :)

The tragic thing is they really believe it too. And idiots will agree with them. x

When I was on JSA benefits I couldn't afford a car! But then if I had had one I could have gone for a lot more jobs. So it's a vicious circle isn't it? Need a car to get to a job but can't until you get one. It's ok for people living in big cities or in London with the tubes but many areas are like mine with inadequate public transport which don't got to a lot of places (or only once every 2 hours or something). That's if they run early enough to get to a job in the first place. x

So I should not drive and catch a bus? My nearest bus stop is 1 mile away. So he would rather I was house bound than have some personnel liberty. Jumping on the benefit bandwagon with no idea of what life outside their own life bubbles is like. Maybe we will get politicians that have seen life at all angles one day. Not educated career Politicians with no real life experience on all parties.

'. . .Read the papers, watch the news, and you'll get the impression that it's only in Ukip where there are a small minority who need to be dealt with. Nothing could be further from the truth: Greens, Lib Dems, Conservatives and Labour all have their fair share. And they're often of an order of magnitude worse than anything from Ukip candidates. Yet there is a difference in perception and reporting: when it's Ukip, it's perceived as a structural failing within the Party. When it's another Party, it is likely to be local news not national, or reported in only one newspaper. It rarely makes television, and so the cycle is perpetuated. . .'

This is discussing I don't have a disabled car but struggle to keep my car on the road, I wouldn't be able to afford the bus fare and my nearest bus stop is up the hill.

Labour started all this '' lets get all the disabled working '' by giving a very lucrative contract { £5 million plus } to Atos an the guy who drew up the contract giving them a free reign to treat us as they want I also think they were paid more for everyone they said were fit for work. Then came along Cameron and the guy who set up the Atos contract jumped ship to Cameron's party, when Cameron was getting loads of bad press he decided to get rid of Atos and Brown wanted to extend the contract.

And now UKIP have jumped on the disability wagon so who do we vote for I'm waiting for the party who will change the benefit system and anyone with a long term illness will get awarded benefits automatically he will get my vote.

It may have began before but it was the Thatcher government, that really brought greed to the fore.I was left wing then and actually work for the government ,I was a civil servant(not all that civil to the rich anyway lol). When we were given what amounted to redundancy notices just before Christmas that was it for me.Shortly after this my boss asked me if I wanted to get into management,I said no thanks I don,t want to be one of you lot.I lost my job soon after due I believe to my involvement in the union.I,m happy to declare I have slipped further to the left ever since and will continue to,I,d happily put all Tories up against the wall and .....I don,t however wish to go to prison lol.Viva la revolution. D. :D PS.I include u kip idiots as Tories. :x
